iPhone OS X 4.0

Today, Apple has introduced the new operating system for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad platforms. Steve Jobs began by talking about the huge sales figures of the iPad (450.000).

Steve Jobs announced that 4.0 has 1500 new APIs (QuickLook, press to focus, Digital Zoom…), which will undoubtedly complete the iPhone and iPad. Many possibilities open up for both developers and Apple, more APIs means better use of resources.

Keynote 4.0 03

Multitask: what many of us were waiting for. Steve showed how to change from one App to another by pressing Home twice and it could be seen that everything was very fluid and fast. The most remarkable thing is that it has been achieved implement multitasking taking great care of CPU and Battery consumption. Scott said: 'Basically, we have looked at the services with which the applications have to run in the background. So we've implemented those services as APIs, so developers can manage various processes while conserving battery life. "

Keynote 4.0 02

It was shown how multitasking works with the Music Streaming App «Pandora »looks the same as iPod.app.

Keynote 4.0 20

Keynote 4.0 05

Then it was the turn of the lords of Skype, which showed their App running in the background while other Apps were running, that way you can talk to Skype and do anything else at the same time (Will the flattering treatment for the operators end?).

Keynote 4.0 12

It was also the turn of the maps, now we can have the Tomtom App showing us the way while we use the other iPhone utilities, we will have a pointer at the top that will show us that we are receiving directions. In addition, with this indicator we can know which App uses the location and in the Settings menu we can configure which applications we will allow to use this service.

Keynote 4.0 11

Keynote 4.0 15

Quick switch between apps: "All state is instantly saved, background application stops using resources."

Folders: without a doubt the new way of organize all our App; all games in one, newspaper apps in others. All of it with the elegance of batteries by Snow Leopard. We can create a folder with a simple Drap and Drop (drag and drop) icons.

Keynote 4.0 09

Keynote 4.0 08

In the 4th we can change the wallpaper like on the iPad (like all current mobiles) and we can have up to 2160 Apps on the iPhone.

E-Mail: Unified inbox, that is, if we have many accounts, all the new Mails will go to the entrance, without differentiation by account. We can also manage emails as conversations.

Keynote 4.0 16

iBooks: the iPhone was not going to be less than its brother the iPad. We can also synchronize the bookmarks that we place in the books (in case we use the iPad, the iPod and then the iPhone).

For businesses: More security in email encryption and support for SSL VPN.

Keynote 4.0 17

GameCenter: Apple sells more games than Sony and Nintendo (understandably, they are cheaper). The Game Center network looks for an opponent at your height and makes you play like crazy.

Keynote 4.0 07

Keynote 4.0 06

iAd: Platform to put ads on the iPhone, until now it was mostly used by Google, when you open a free App it usually has some advertising so it will be Apple who of this service. "With iAd the ads will not be in the applications, but INSIDE them."

iAd = emotion + interactivityd. Novel without a doubt also Steve said: “People don't click on ads because they take you out of the app. As iAd is on the same operating system, we have found a way to display interactive content without exiting the program, users will access the ads because they know they can return to their application whenever they want ».

A demonstration was made with a banner of Toy Store 3 (Jobs said that he has already seen it, it is what it has to be the largest shareholder of Disney and almost creator of Pixar), all using HTML5; no Flash. In addition, at all times we can see a cross at the top to close the ad and return to the App. This has many possibilities: games, videos ...

iAd: 60% for developers and 40% for Apple (joer….).

Keynote 4.0 13

Keynote 4.0 21

As you can imagine, 4.0 is now available for developers to start creating and the Firmware will be here in summer for everyone. Remember that multitasking will only be compatible with iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G and the iPad (version 4.0 will be available in the fall for this).

Buah! bitch that I have the 3G, but hey ... I'll continue with the jailbreak. Incredible update, everything we wanted, well, some things have been left out there, but finally Apple has not disappointed me.
I do not want to imagine the piece of iphone that they are going to take out ... let's see if they put things back in their place and show who's boss here. Hahaha

  5.   daniel said

for the superimpatients who go on a trip abroad in 2 days and do not feel like paying 60 bucks for the tomtom, do you know something about jailbreak for 3.1.3 of the new ones now that everything is sacao?

It is not because they are tikismikis and they seem to me to be very interesting improvements, but from what I have led I continue to miss that the block screen has some use, it would have been something that would not have cost them anything, let's hope for more news.

  7.   Mundi said

from the apple page they give us the compatibility and the 3G IS COMPATIBLE !!!

  8.   iPetahh said

There is an error in: ¨Remember that multitasking will only be compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 2G and 3G and the iPad (version 4.0 will be available in the fall for this) .¨

The error is that the IPHONE 3G AND THE IPOD 2G do not support multitasking

  9.   rabalsan said

but not in multitasking, which is a bitch although it would surely go like ass if they implemented it

  10.   metalcd said

I liked the presentation, but it is all soft and I wanted something new from the hard ... that means that the new iphone will not come out until after the summer if it does come out ... and with all the questions that no one asked about the new iphone if you have it in mind ...

  11.   David said

This is all very well, but what about the radio?

  12.   cuba24 said

And for the 2g that …………

  13.   odalie said

In short, the presentation has been good. What I liked the most was the topic of multitasking, folder management and unification of the mailbox.

What has made me less funny is the issue of multitasking incompatibility for the iPhone 3G (I own one).

Anyway, my stay ends in summer and if I am convinced by the iPhone OS 4.0 and the supposed new iPhone 4G model that Apple is going to release, I would change it.

Of course, Apple has to work hard on its new iPhone to get me to catch it. I don't want a 3GS with a new case called 4G.

  14.   Carlos said

And being able to put a widget like in Android ... nothing, right?

  15.   Venues said

… ..The update was very good, but I was hoping to finally see the Radio on the iphone 🙁

  16.   Juanan said

Sorry if I was a rookie with a silly question but there is one thing I do not understand. I just got a new 3Gs a week ago and this OS 4, can I update it on my phone when it comes out? What? Will it have any cost? Thanks

  17.   odalie said

Hello Juanan, yes you can update it when it comes out at no cost. You will only have to connect your phone to iTunes and it will notify you that a new update is available and if you want to install it.

  18.   Jeans said

So I have the 2G ... I will stay in 3.1.3 ????? There will be no compatibility with the first generation iPhone? ¬¬

  19.   Juanan said

Thank you very much Odalie. The truth is that I'm still a bit lost with my iPhone and that I like computer science and I am good at mobile phones. xD Gracais from new

Juanan if you can update it when it comes out, with itunes and all for free.

For the person who talks about 3.1.3 and JB I have that version with JB what I do not have is the Unlock I suggest you take a weekend and look good since it exists and with respect to the new OS 4.0 bin they suffer (I'm happy) what hurts me is the Wifi but I'm satisfied with the new firmware

  23.   cellusafe said

They have realized that the images of the iPhone that they have shown in today's keynote, corresponds to the new iPhone HD ???? They do not notice it more "elongated" with the longer screen as well as the photos of the new iPhone HD LCD have been filtered… have you already noticed it ???

I have been an iPhone user since it came out, with 2g to later switch to 3gs. In all this time I have become a true apple fan-boy, and from echomi ipad it is already crossing the puddle directly to my hands, but I have to say, after what I saw today I feel very disappointed ...:

1.- This was supposed to be the great revolution of the IphoneOS, the one that was going to leave the competition in the gutter, and the only serious improvement is multitasking (which is already worth it).
2.- No initial screen with information, or widgets.
3.- Multitasking applications close themselves, there is no button to close them. The system knows which ones we want to have open and which ones we don't. Mr Jobs, do you think we are so stupid as not to know which application we want to close and which to leave open?

Following apple policy here are my predictions:

June 2010: Apple presents the iPhone HD with a double resolution screen. Compatible ipad applications. It will incorporate some more chuminez as a digital altimeter that will make us speechless.

April 2010: Before the popular clamor, Apple decides to put little crosses in the application manager, and on the home screen we can put the widgets that we want from the two or three that Apple leaves us. Unfortunately, these features will be so advanced that the iPhone 3GS and all the above will not be able to enjoy them ...

Or maybe by then everything is already android

  25.   Fran said

The other company will have it quite difficult, well enough if not very complicated. So put the batteries all the companies because it is very crude. Good and thank you for the information.

  26.   Silvia said

And they didn't say anything about the wifi problem ???

I thought they were going to present the new "iphone 4g" and it turns out that it is only the os ...
Open a new terminal for August?

  28.   clusus said

go poof is not bad but come on .. tp seems like the panacea

  29.   coolk said

Well, the truth is that it is not bad, what we have been expecting for a long time !!!!!!!, I think it will always have deficiencies, it will never be perfect for everyone, but we agree on something, the iPhone is wonderful.
And if I know that I am another apple fanboy but it is that pussy hooks !!!!!

sorry for the taco, ah !!! by the way the ipad as soon as it comes out I caught it!

    regards

Have you seen what appears when you enter the Dev-Team page? http://www.dev-team.org «Yellowsn0w third generation»… Will 3G users FW 3.1.3 BB 5.12.01 be lucky? I wish!

  31.   lysergio said

Someone dared to install the 4.0 beta ?????

I have it downloaded (from the developer page, if you are registered as such)

but it gives me something ... then I don't know if I'll be able to go back to 3.1.2 and my JB ....

    greetings to all

PS: I think the improvements are good, it is clear that it never rains to everyone's liking ... and if they put what we wanted, it is not just how we wanted it, but this is so ...
It must be recognized that apple apart from making impressive hardware / software, they are the fucking masters of marketing, and they show it to us ...

  32.   Matias said

Finally a real reason to have an iPhone 3GS…. Before it was a luxury, now it is necessary.

  33.   ErMasLoko said

It was necessary to unlock the radio chip that the 3GS already have. Surely the iPhone 4G will already bring a built-in radio and thus "induce" people to buy it and throw away your "old" 3Gs that "don't have" radio.

  34.   mrdan03 said

    big!!!!!!!

  35.   Marce castro said

    It's "Toy Story 3", not Store 😛

And about the big improvements ... well, okay, but most modern mobiles already had multitasking, folders, etc. a long time ago.

  36.   Marti said

When can we download version 4.0?

  37.   asio said

It is a good update for the iPhone it is true, but it is also true that there is no innovation, or nothing surprising that has not been seen already. It is just something necessary that should have been since the 3GS came out. It is like MMS, things that the mobile is capable of but that do not come out for a long time ...

It is the policy of apple, things drop by drop to get hooked on their vicious roll, if they give you everything at once, you get tired.

  38.   endika said

I totally agree with Asio, and that's what makes me piss off about apple.
Things that mobiles did a few years ago, now Apple puts them on the iphone and everyone like crazy hahaha anyway.
    And the radio?

  39.   AngelD said

They did not say anything about the Wi-Fi problem, so we will continue with the same problem, this is advertising, what they want is that people who have the Wi-Fi problem that they themselves caused, buy the new model or the 3GS !!!

  40.   Fon said

How easy it is to abhor the masses.
Anyone with a modicum of training in operating system design would laugh in the face of Jobs and his engineers. What kind of multitasking is this please?

By the way, nice move by Apple towards users of iPhone's 2G and 3G. I'm about to send you a screenshot of my 2G iPhone with multitasking (thank God we still have the scene), hardware limitations or cheek from Apple? I think Apple has already caught up with Microsoft.

  41.   Marce castro said

@Fon, as I have been told in another forum, these Apple are a company and as a company they are going to win the maximum amount of money they can. See if they do well ...

Of course they know that we have multitasking with jailbreak (long live backgrounder + proswithcer !!) and other wonders that JB gives us, but they are only interested in selling, gradually releasing "news" to encourage us to buy new things, as Jobs has recognized in a interview:

“The old devices will be updated, but they will lose some functions such as multitasking. That's an incentive for them to buy a new device. "
