The Android iPhone SE is called Pixel 4a and costs 389 euros

Many are the rumors that have surrounded the expected Google Pixel 4a, Google's entry range to the Pixel range and with which the search giant wants to gain a foothold in the market. Although the intention of Google does not happen with becoming a benchmark in the telephony market, with the Pixel 4a you can.

The second generation iPhone SE it is the cheapest bet that Apple makes available to all those users who have always wanted to enjoy an iPhone, but who, for financial reasons, have not been able to. In fact, thanks to this new iPhone SE, Apple has saved much of this last quarter.

The strategy of launching a cheaper smartphone derived from a high-end model is not new, in fact, it was Google who first took advantage of it with the Pixel 3a last year, a mid-range smartphone for 399 euros, a smartphone that exceeded the most positive sales expectations they had from Google.

The big loser with the launch of the Pixel 3a was the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, two smartphones that were launched a few months later and that have passed practically without pain or glory in the market. This year, Google has wanted to improve its bet, not only with a renewed design and better features, but also with a price reduction and a 5G model.

The price without a doubt, is one of the main attractions for this new terminal, a terminal that has a price of 389 euros (349 dollars plus taxes in the United States). The price of the iPhone SE 2020 is 489 euros (399 dollars plus taxes in the United States).

Screens and resolution

In this category there is no color. While the Pixel 4a offers us a 5,81-inch OLED screen with FullHD + resolution, the iPhone SE 2020 uses the same screen that we could find in the iPhone 8, a model with a 4,7-inch screen with HD resolution and some gigantic frames both upper and lower (where we find the Touch ID).

Power

Apple took advantage of everything it could from the design of the iPhone 8 (practically everything from the screen to the battery) however, it did not choose to use the same processor, instead uses the same one that we can currently find in the entire iPhone 11 range, a processor that allows it to offer a much higher performance than we can find in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G.

Storage and RAM

Apple has never been known for being generous with the RAM it installs in its devices, mainly because the management that iOS does is different from what we can find in Android. However, the more sugar, the sweeter.

While the iPhone SE 2020 is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM, the Pixel 4a is managed by 6 GB of RAM, which allows make up for part of the deficiencies offered by the Snapdragon 730G.

If we talk about storage, the Pixel 4a is available in a single 128GB version for 389 euros. Apple offers us the iPhone SE 2020 in three versions of 64, 28 and 256 GB of storage, starting at 489 euros for the version with less storage.

Security

Both terminals offer us the same security system: fingerprint sensor. Apple has implemented it in the front of the terminal, as in all the terminals that it has launched on the market with Touch ID, while in the Pixel 4a, we find it in the back, which allows to expand the size of the screen and reduce the edges.

Cameras

Both devices have a single 12 MP rear camera. In the last two years, Apple has (finally) been able to improve the algorithm for processing the photographs taken by its devices, an algorithm where Google with the Pixel range has always been king, even with a single camera.

Due to the limitations set by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730G, the Pixel 4a can only record 4K video at 30fps. The iPhone SE 2020, allows you to record videos in 4K quality at 24, 30 and 60 fps.

Battery

The iPhone 8 had a 1.810 mAh battery, the same battery that we can find in the iPhone SE 2020. The Pixel 4a, for its part, offers us a 3.140 mAh battery, a size wider due to the larger screen size.

While the Pixel 4a is made of plastic materials on the back, the iPhone SE has a glass back cover which allows implement a wireless charging system, option not available on the Pixel 4a.

The Pixel 4a box includes a 18W charger While the charger included in the iPhone SE 2020 box is still the traditional 5W.

Better option: Pixel 4a for capacity / iPhone SE 2020 for convenience.

Price

While Google has chosen to offer a single storage mode, 128 GB for 389 euros, Apple offers users three storage options: 64 GB for 489 euros, 128 GB for 539 euros and 256 GB for 659 euros.

Which is better option

It may be striking that in many of the categories of both terminals, you have selected, in particular, the Google Pixel 4a as the best option. Far from the fanaticism that we can find in some Apple blogs, when other manufacturers get it right, it must be said.

The iPhone SE is an excellent option to consider for all those who want enter the Apple ecosystem or they have not renewed their old iPhone for years due to the price increase they have had. If you don't care about the ecosystem, both terminals are perfect, but I honestly believe that the best option is the Pixel 4a.

Obviously it all depends on your needs, but if your priorities do not go through recording videos in 4K at 60 fps, the processing power is secondary but you want a large bezel-less display, ample storage, and all-day battery, the Pixel 4a is the best option. In addition, if you want the 5G version, you can also get it for a little more (its price has not been announced at the moment), an option that is not currently available on the iPhone SE 2020.
