If there is an Apple application that gathers unanimous negative reviews, it is undoubtedly iTunes. The application, available on macOS and Windows, was once essential to be able to update our devices, manage our music or make backup copies. This time is long gone and most users surely do not even remember when they last opened it.
It seems that Apple's plans for the immediate future are not encouraging for this application, and as many users have been asking for a long time, the company will disaggregate the application into several independent apps: Music, TV, Podcasts and Books.
One of these applications already exists in macOS, Books, although it does not yet include audiobooks, which would become part of it if this rumor is fulfilled. Another has already been announced, TV, which will contain the Apple TV platform and the Apple TV + service that will arrive this fall. We would only have to see the Music and Podcasts application on macOS, which would be a huge relief for many users (including myself) who avoid using these services on macOS precisely because of how cumbersome it is to use iTunes compared to how simple it is to use standalone apps on iPhone or iPad.
I am now fairly confident based on evidence I don't wish to make public at this point that Apple is planning new (likely UIKit) Music, Podcasts, perhaps even Books, apps for macOS, to join the new TV app. I expect the four to be the next wave of Marzipan apps. Grain of salt, etc

This developer has analyzed the iOS and macOS code on many occasions, anticipating many of the novelties that Apple has later revealed, so its reliability is high. In addition, this rumor fits perfectly with the arrival of Marzipan, Apple's project to make applications "universal" for iOS and macOS. We ALREADY have examples of applications for iOS that have been ported to macOS, such as Home, Stocks, News or Voice Notes.
That iTunes is cumbersome? The pity that you have not had a moment to bother with how iTunes works, how to add covers, lyrics, information, group albums, for me it is essential and I use it every day to listen to MY music while using the mac.
The pity is that you have not bothered to search before speaking because I have tutorials on how to use iTunes explaining how it works in depth. That he thinks it is cumbersome does not mean that he knows how to handle it. That you use it does not mean that there are many people who consider it a painful app.
I also use it every day, to create or modify my playlists, manage downloaded movies and series and be able to watch them on my apple tv with the shared library, etc ... If you want to simplify it and make 3 applications out of one, I don't see I a lot of simplification on that.

Well, I'm someone else who uses iTunes every day to listen to music and the truth is, what I use it for (managing my music library, putting album covers, etc…) doesn't seem very complicated to me.
Another thing is that Apple seems determined that you subscribe to Apple Music forcibly. I bought the HomePod and although it sounds very good, had I been informed before and known that it is designed assuming that if you buy it you will pay a fixed subscription to Apple Music, I would not have bought it and would have opted for some Sonos or similar, cheaper and stereo .
If Apple's move to load iTunes is aimed at getting a substitute that forces you to consume Apple Music ... we will have to look for an option other than Apple to listen to music on the iMac ... or do the somersault on the PC, because I'm not willing to pay monthly when I have a large club of my own… and I also had the three-month Apple Music trial and I didn't like it at all !!
I would say hey Siri put on some jazz and I would play Enya. I would tell him to put some blues and he would put anything ... and the disastrous interface, there I do get lost to find what interests me.
