Jailbreak? No, thanks.

Cydia-iOS-7

Who was going to tell me. After five years using iOS and jailbreaking whenever it was available, this has been the first time I have decided to do without installing Cydia on my device, an iPhone 6 Plus. The reason? It doesn't make up for me. After evaluating the advantages and disadvantages, analyzing the risks and having tried to be with and without Jailbreak, my decision is clear: I prefer iOS 8 clean, official, although obviously I miss some of the options that Cydia offers.

Safety is important

Jailbreak has always been a risk, but for a while now Apple devices are a prime target for hackers. iOS has its security flaws, that's inevitable, but Apple fixes them quickly once discovered. Jailbreak opens the doors to a lot of malware, it is an inevitable side effect, but if we consider where the latest threats come from and where the jailbreak comes from, there is a coincidence: China. I'm not going to say that this Pangu Jailbreak is a threat. Saurik himself has participated in the process and it seems that there are no more risks than those that the Jailbreak itself causes, but I have to admit that the latest malware news from China and that Pangu comes from that same country, from a team of developers completely unknown, has influenced my decision.

iOS-7-battery

Battery duration

But safety is not the only reason, not even the most important to me. What made me consider doing without the jailbreak was the battery life. My iPhone 6 Plus can withstand iOS 8 for a whole day of intensive use, but with the Jailbreak that stopped happening. With Cydia installed and just 4 or 5 tweaks, the battery phantom returned without explanation. Taking the iPhone and seeing that it has dropped by 15% since the previous time I had used it for no apparent reason is something that made me think that iOS 8 is not bad at all without Jailbreak.

The problem of the jailbreak and the battery is not new, that has always existed, but when I was used to charging my iPhone at noon to be able to continue using it during the afternoon for me it was not so important. What difference does it make to plug it into the charger with 30% or 10%. But arriving with my iPhone 6 Plus at night with 40% without much problem or seeing that I already have that 40% at 6 in the afternoon is something that It has undoubtedly been decisive in my return to official iOS 8.

iOS 8 has improved a lot

From iOS 3, the version in which I started my journey in this world, to iOS 8, Apple's operating system has improved a lot. It is far from perfect, but Jailbreak has become less necessary for the vast majority of users, even for the most advanced. I am a user of a complete "Apple ecosystem" so iOS and OS X offer me almost everything I need. I understand that many users do not share this opinion, but for me it is. Widgets, Extensions, Keyboards, AirDrop, Handoff, Continuity ... I really don't need more for my daily use. I don't mean to say that iOS 8 is perfect, far from it, but for me right now it is enough.

Cydia does not offer me anything interesting at the moment

iOS 8 Cydia

iOS 8 has improved a lot, and Cydia does not currently offer any "breakthrough" tweak. Right now there is no iOS 8 compatible app that I really miss. Perhaps when the new version of Auxo for iOS 8 comes out, things will change, but analyzing the tweaks that I had on my device I did not find any that I really consider essential. BioProtect, Activator, FolderEnhancer… only iFile could come close to essential, but it really isn't.

The Jailbreak has just come out for iOS 8, and this situation may change with new tweaks that really make the Jailbreal worthwhile for me again, but my decision is made: I prefer my iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8 "clean" . You may soon have to post «Why did I re-Jailbreak my device«.

In terms of battery life, I don't notice much difference in how long it lasts, with and without Jailbreak. I have already verified that in iOS 8 there is a big difference with iOS 7. In iOS 7 they told us that it was better to leave the apps open and that less battery was used. I have verified that with iOS 8, what you have to do is close them, because it consumes less battery. Activator is essential for me and having personalized melodies that last more than 30 seconds is also essential. The day Apple offers me a native Activator and lets me put melodies that last more than 30 seconds, that day I will no longer jailbreak.

I was really undecided and three days ago I decided to jailbreak my iPhone 6 and I can only say that the battery is going great, the battery lasts exactly the same, during the night it drops 1% at most, Luis I think the problem of that huge consumption on your device is from some tweak that is not yet optimized for ios 8 and is clearly playing a bad role ...

I do not understand the "meaning" of this post ... the only conclusion I came to is that doing this proselytizing against Jailbreak is out of simple and straightforward interest, especially for the poor arguments that border on pathetic more in line with a blog of a teenager that a professional blog (supposedly) ... it is but do not believe that you have never really jailbroken any iPhone.
The Tweaks that you may seem dispensable for another user are important, since they help you day to day in your work; each user with his terminal is a world and in a blog dedicated to said terminals the readers of said blog seek help and guidance not confusion.

«Proselytizing Against Jailbreak»… What to read. Unlike you, I have not doubted those who do the jailbreak, I do not even try to convince them. I've been doing Jailbreak for years, I've done tutorials for each and every one of them, in fact you can see one from yesterday made by me. I have published dozens of reviews of Cydia tweaks, that is, I know what I am talking about.

My arguments do not serve you? Perfect, I'm not trying to make it that way. They are my arguments, and I think that some people may be useful, some people may even partially agree.

According to you, publishing an article in which Jailbreak is questioned is typical of a teenagers blog ... That is tolerance and the rest is nonsense.

I agree with maltes93, on a page of such caliber we care very little why, in particular, you do not like the Jailbreak on your new iPhone. From experience in Apple users I assure you that in less than 3 months it will you have jailed your device, because if not, it will be a real boredom, you will not be able to squeeze your iphone, you will not be able to screw it up or have errors .. conclusion? you will not learn anything new.

That that there is no tweak or that at most you will wait for auxo…. And you complain about the battery? Please, the tweak that is least useful is auxo, and that of the battery, blame your social networks and vice, not jail, because if you know about jail, you will know how to solve the battery problem.

Malware… what was missing. I'm shut up now, good afternoon.

    Hey.
I have a 6GB iphone 64, ios 8.1 and from the jailbreak I use the following tweaks:
    Activator
    iFile
    FakeOperator
    SwipeSelection
    Mobius
    NoSlowAnimations
    FlipControlCenter

The battery lasts me from 24 to 30 hours (With use of chat, mail, videos, and some games), I tested its duration before and after the jailbreak and it was not affected.

I would think that before saying that the jailbreak affects the battery I would say that there may be Tweaks that do it but NOT the jailbreak and that depends on each user and their needs.

I am more or less in the same situation; I have always been a Jailbreaker, but at the moment I have not put it on my iPhone 6 nor do I plan to do it in the short term.

My favorite tweks are Activator, Sprintomize, iGotYa, NoPowerDown and little else, and some of them have not even been updated.

The same at Christmas, I have a few days off and maybe I get bored, I try to see how it is.

    Greetings.

Knowing the personal opinion of someone who, since the Jailbreak appeared, has installed it on all devices is appreciated. With each new model that iPhone introduces, Apple attracts new users where one of the first questions asked is whether or not to Jailbreak their device.
Experience is a degree. There are people who only Jailbreak to install pirated applications, but many others, on the other hand, do it to enjoy all those functions that Apple should add yes or yes to iOS. For example, for my Auxo 2 and Activator they are essential and I have a hard time living without them, but it's all a matter of getting used to it. I'm not going to sacrifice the battery of my iPhone 6 Plus just for two tweaks.

Better rent a hotel room for yourself and your new iPhone 6 looks like you love it very much

I use jailbreak from the iPhone 5 right now I have 5S and the 6 that arrives in a few days I will not hesitate to do it before Apple releases the new update

I was an opponent before the jailbreak
but right now I still think that apple lacks too much so that it does not depend on a jailbreak personally

If you know how to use cydia and the correct tweaks so that they do not conflict
You will not have any problem of excess battery or that you crash any tweak

    your arguments are superfluous

On 3 occasions I jailbroken 3 different devices and in all cases when I already had my devices to my liking the system ended up becoming chaotic. Lots of app conflicts. I ended up forgetting about the damn jailbreak. I missed my tweaks at first but I breathed for having my device working well and without so much problem. On the other hand, I felt that the jailbreak made me insecure because of so many things that cydia modifies.

    Many greetings to all.

By the way and perhaps this comment will not go here. This site is excellent, just a sin, and that is that lately advertising seems very uncomfortable and invasive. I feel like I'm using an Android phone. I hope it reaches the administrators and they consider it.

I use my iPhone 6 Plus with jailbreak, it is true that cydia is less and less interesting, but it still offers me tweaks that adapt to my needs. As for the battery, I have not noticed any difference, I am delighted with its performance (even after having restored 2 times because I did not wait for the jailbreak to be stable). I keep waiting for surprises from tweaks on cydia. Greetings.

Very good, I have also had Jailbreak on all my devices, always for the mere fact of installing igotya, on the iphone 6 plus I did it with pangu first and then with taig, with neither of them I have noticed much change in the battery, but first with pangu I was caught once and there was no way to start it again, so I had to restore and lose the data of 3 or 4 days that I did not make a copy. Today precisely with Taig, who apart from installing the essential igotya, had installed two whatsapp so as not to carry two phones, I have been caught again, and I have lost another 4 or 5 days of information, what bothers me the most are the photos of today's Christmas dinner, which as much as I have loved has not had time to save. Therefore, from now on it will be very difficult for me to Jailbreak any of my devices again.
    Goodnight.
