With this guide you can jailbreak your iPhone 4S with iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1, and also to your iPad 2 with iOS 5.0.1.
You need to download Absinthe: Do it here.
It is important that you make a Backup of everything you have on your iPhone before jailbreak, just in case: contacts, games, photos, etc. (on iTunes).
It is a jailbreak untethered.
This tutorial works for both Windows and Mac, although for now there is only a Mac version, we will update when there is one for Windows.
Tutorial:
Download the file Absinthe
Deactivate code lock if you have it activated.
Connect your iPhone 4S.
Push the button jailbreak
Now you will see several steps:
- Sending initial date
- Waiting for reboot
- waiting for device to finish booting
- Preparing jailbreak data
- Sending payload data
- Almost done
Your iPhone will restart and you will have a new icon: Absinthe
Clicked and wait
If you get an error: Error Establishing a database connection
Go to Settings and activate the VPN button
It will give you a configuration error, but wait a minute and your device will reboot with Cydia on the Springboard. You already have the jailbreak done.

If the jailbreak key remains blank, it may be for two reasons.

I'm desperate! I tried my best to jailbreak my iphone 4S with no results. When I run the absinthe program from my Mac and I always get the same error: "unexpected error occurred, exit, force restart."
I tried to use the CLI tools but all the tutorials I found are for windows. I only found one from Mac and when I put the commands in the terminal it gives me errors.

In the end I was able to jailbreak without problems. But I could not do it with my Mac. I was investigating and the error occurs because I have an old version of the operating system (I have to go to snow leopard first and then to Lion).
Given the above, I did it on a windows 7 machine. I had to install the itunes on this machine so that the Absinthe recognized my phone (I didn't even have to synchronize, it was enough that the iTunes was installed). Having passed the recognition of the phone, I did the jailbreak in a matter of minutes.
