Logitech StreamCam, very simple and very complete

We tested the most complete webcam on the market: Logitech StreamCam. A combination of hardware and software that makes getting started in live broadcasts or enhancing your videoconferences a child's play.

Design and Specifications

Logitech has opted for a completely different design than current webcams, which very reminiscent of the brand's traditional webcams, those iconic round cameras, bulky, but this time with a rectangular design. It's big and weighs 222 grams, but it looks really good on top of our iMac or MacBook. We have it available in two colors, black and white, the second option being the one I like the most and the one we tested in this analysis.

It is made of plastic, with the construction quality that characterizes Logitech, very solid and well finished. On the front it has a textile lining that gives it a distinctive touch that is more reminiscent of a speaker than a camera, with the Logi logo at the bottom, and a white LED that lights up when the camera is in use. The camera's design allows it to be positioned for both horizontal and vertical shooting, adapting it to the fashion of vertical videos that some social networks use. This base also allows to modify the inclination and rotation, maintaining the position that you fix it in a stable way.

The base of the clamara allows to adapt it to any monitorFrom the ultra-thin covers of the MacBook Air and Pro to thicker monitors, we can even use the base to place it on a surface if we want. It's okay if we want to use a tripod, because a standard threaded adapter is also included for this purpose. Placing the camera in the right place is not the slightest problem.

In terms of connectivity, we are talking about a USB-C, which is not a problem for a Mac user since it is a connection that Apple adopted several years ago. If you do not have this connection you can always use a conventional USB adapter, but most likely you will lose the highest quality recording that this camera offers: 1080p 60fps. The cable is reinforced, 1,5 meters long, and cannot be removed from the end of the camera. I'm not a huge fan of these permanent connections, but the truth is that it is quite difficult to think that this cable could break.

As for the specs of the camera itself, supports recording up to 1080p 60fps, going through a multitude of resolutions up to that maximum, including vertical and square video:

• Resoluciones: 1920×1080, 1280×720, 960×540, 848×480, 640×360, 320×240
• MJPEG: 60 fps, 30 fps, 24 fps, 20 fps, 15 fps, 10 fps, 7,5 fps, 5 fps
• YUY2, NV12: 30 fps, 24 fps, 20 fps, 15 fps, 10 fps, 7,5 fps, 5 fps

It has an f / 2.0 lens with a 78º field of view and two microphones with noise reduction system and mono or stereo recording, in case you don't want to have to use an external microphone. Both camera and microphone are automatically detected on your Mac simply by connecting it to the computer. It is compatible with any Mac that has macOS 10.14 or Windows 10 computer.

Logitech Capture, a software at the height

This complete hardware is perfectly complemented by software made to measure and that multiplies the value of the camera. Logitech Capture, which can be downloaded for free at this link, is a real gem for those who want to start in the world of streaming, or simply for those who go from complications. It is compatible with OBS and Xplit (including 3 months premium of the latter) and it offers you quite advanced tools such as multiscreen, transitions, selection of multiple sources, video effects, text banners ... with a fairly simple interface that any newbie in the world of streaming can use without any problem.

The app is still in beta for macOS, but it works quite well. I have only had a specific crash that has been solved by restarting the application. It has a dark mode so that the reflection of the screen does not affect the lighting of your face, and the advantage of to be able to visualize in real time everything you apply to know how your followers will see the video. Autofocus and automatic framing also allow you to always appear on the screen in perfect condition. White balance, backlight correction, filters ... the options available to improve your recording are innumerable.

Applications like OBS offer you more advanced tools, it is true, but they are much less intuitive. In Logitech Capture you will find everything you need for quality streaming without major complicationsbut with a final result that many would already like. You can store the recordings on your Mac to upload them later to your networks, or you can do direct but then you will need an app like OBS, although don't worry because they integrate perfectly.
