Microsoft released yesterday a workflow management application for its online service and enters to compete directly with IFTTT, this new application has the name of «Microsoft Flow«.
For those unfamiliar with the idea, services like IFTTT allow connect different digital platforms and automate actions between themsuch as having all your Gmail attachments to save to a Dropbox account, or having each new entry added to a sync contact list in a Google spreadsheet.
Microsoft Flow first debuted in April as a web service for creating workflows for two or more cloud services, simplifying things like syncing files and organizing data. But Microsoft Flow also supports a number of other trigger services, such as receiving a text message from a particular person or emails, also automatically saving, after setting up a Twitter account, mentions to your company in a tweet and add it to a previously configured database.
With the release of the iOS app, Microsoft Flow now supports workflow options for more services, but keeps the focus on integration with Microsoft's own business tools, such as Office 365, Dynamics CRM, PowerApps, and Yammer. Automation of business-related services such as MailChip, GitHub, Salesforce, and Slack are also supported.
The iOS app allows users to manage existing flows created from web service, which allows users to disable them, view their properties, and generate bug-checking reports to make sure they are working correctly. There is also an in-app search activity feed that shows all recent flow actions, which can be tapped to get more details.
The app also supports push notifications for activation issues, and Microsoft promises that will soon include the ability to create new workflows without having to log into the web-based service.
Microsoft Flow is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch with iOS 8.0 or later.
