Moshi Deep Purple, a portable UV sterilizer

Moshi has launched a project on Kickstarter with which we can get a fantastic Portable ultraviolet (UVC) sterilizer with which to leave all our accessories free of viruses and bacteria, and that now can be had at a great price.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the disinfection of hands and surfaces has become one more routine of our day to day. But have you thought what happens with the accessories that you carry in your pocket and that you handle on a daily basis? The mobile phone, the car keys, the house keys, the wallet ... are elements that we often leave on tables and other surfaces, and that therefore can be contaminated with all kinds of bacteria and viruses. In addition, in most cases they are elements that cannot be disinfected with bleach or alcohol without damaging them.

Hence the rise of ultraviolet sterilizers. These devices use ultraviolet type-C (UVC) radiation to destroy all kinds of germs, viruses and bacteria, from our devices. This radiation directly attacks the DNA of germs, and is completely clean, leaving no residue or damaging electronic devices. Deep Purple is a UVC sterilizer that Moshi has launched on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform and that has several virtues that make it different from the rest of the sterilizers that you can find on the market.

One of these differences is that it achieves complete sterilization, without blind spots. Thanks to a small transparent platform on which we place the items to be sterilized and the reflective Teflon platform, UVC radiation reaches all points, without leaving any surface with germs. In this way we can place our iPhone inside the box and remove it completely clean of germs. In addition, Moshi has thought of everything and has created a foldable «origami» type sterilizer that allows us to take it anywhere comfortably. The operation is carried out through a USB-C cable that we can connect to any charger or external battery.

As security mechanisms, it has a light sensor that detects that the lid opens directly turns off the UVC light so that you are sure that it will not damage you. A UVC radiation sensitive paint serves as an indicator that sterilization has been complete something that takes about four minutes. The lid with magnetic closure completes all the safety measures of this portable sterilizer.

The project has already secured more than the funding needed to complete, but still can be found on the Kickstarter website (link) at a lower price than the one that will go on sale to the public once the campaign ends, which only has two weeks left. Its price on Kickstarter is $ 119 while its retail price will be $ 150.
