The Motorola Moto Z without 3.5mm jack Now what?

Moto-z

It has been rumored, talked about, blasphemed and even slandered about the possibility that Apple decides to eliminate the 3.5mm jack in the iPhone 7. For those who do not know what we mean, we are talking about the connection port for headphones. The reality is that everything seems forced or a ploy when Apple does it, but when it is a humble company that has won the affection of all users thanks to its low-cost devices, things change. Motorola (owned by Lenovo), recently launched its fantastic Moto Z, with a peculiar feature that seems to have gone unnoticed, without a 3.5mm jack.

Now it seems that nobody is scandalized by the fact, not only that the Motorola Moto Z does not have headphones as an extra, but with the fact that you will not be able to use other headphones that you have at home, unless you acquire a USB-C adapter or are compatible via Bluetooth. The reality is that if Apple had been the first company to make this decision, to kick off the death of the 3.5mm jack, it would be on the front page of all the media that we report on technology. We have talked right here about the possible removal of the 3.5mm jack and there have been few comments against this option, expressing total indignation.

However, Motorola has uprooted this possibility and hardly anyone seems to have realized it. The reality is that it is a logical reaction to an intelligent movement. The 3.5mm jack is an obsolete technology that has its days numbered, it is time to take a step forward, and the technological advance that USB-C supposes due to its characteristics cannot be ignored. In this my humble opinion piece, I am about to applaud Motorola's move and I hope that many more firms begin to join this idea.

Why should the 3.5mm jack disappear?

Always from my point of view, I am going to list a series of common excuses against the elimination of the 3.5mm jack, as well as my arguments to explain why I consider the 3.5mm jack to be an outdated connection and it is time to leave step to the future. I would like, in turn, that after reading the arguments, you go to the comment box, to @A_iPhone's Twitter or to mine if you want my personal answer, to tell us what you think about this possible elimination of the 3.5mm jack in the iPhone 7.

  • Is that now I'm going to need a USB-C adapter for my headphones: True, in fact, the logical thing would be that the same firms that have decided to sacrifice the 3.5 Jack include this adapter as a gift in the box, something that I do not think costs more than headphones. Anyway, it should come as no surprise that they even start to include headphones with a USB-C connection directly, it would be the logical thing to do.
  • However, what difference does it make, if it sounds the same: The reality is that no, USB-C is capable not only of transmitting audio, but even of transmitting an image in Full HD with excellent results, in fact, there are not a few monitors that are being launched on the market directly with USB-C connection. Therefore, the audio transmission will be done in digital format, and not analog, which is clearly cleaner and with better sound.
  • Bluetooth headphones? They are expensive and use a lot of battery: In the market we find everything, and the fact that they are Bluetooth headphones does not significantly increase the price, and of course, it does not harm the battery. I have been using Bluetooth headphones for a year and the reality is that if you know how to buy, they do not waste battery. In fact, the multimedia system in my car consumes more battery from the iPhone than the headphones, which I use daily at the gym. The key is to buy Bluetooth 4.1 headphones, a Bluetooth connection that barely consumes battery. The Bluedio brand, for example, offers Bluetooth 4.1 headphones from € 19 with a sound quality above most Sony, Philips or Panasonic headphones (for example), in the same price range and with a jack connection.
  • I cannot listen to music with headphones while charging the device: Honestly, in this matter I have little or nothing to say, the possibility of using headphones if you charge the mobile with USB-C is limited to Bluetooth.

May the 3.5mm Jack rest in peace, thank you very much for the services provided, we will never forget you. Now it is his turn to go to the same heaven as VHS, DVD, cassette tapes, and Scart.

To begin with, and if I'm not mistaken, it comes standard with an adapter to use the headphones. Which I doubt Apple will do. I would also prefer that Apple not give away the headphones in Europe and that way it does not have to limit the output power of the headphones. That many audiophiles fight to get the Americans for this limitation.

There is a difference between the fact that the gun was fired by Apple and Motorola quite large: USB-C is a standard and it will replace the other USB standards in the future, while lighting is no more than something exclusive and unique to Apple.

In the future when there will probably be USB C headphones with higher quality than those that exist today, even if you need an adapter it is likely that your friend regardless of the brand has one, or has a USB C headphones. you keep yours at home, you better have someone who uses an iPhone nearby

Well, Motorola was not the first, the Alcatel Idol Ultra from two years ago did not incorporate it and brought a usb adapter, for those who like to listen to music through headphones or wired hands-free it is a frustration and if Bluetooth is a wear and tear of energy, he created that it is for others that they no longer innovate and they are only competitions to see who does something to the smartphone.

I remind you that in 2008 Nokia had introduced the Nokia 6600 Slide that did not have a 3.5 jack. You could only listen with Bluetooth headphones.

The editor soon buried the 3,5mm jack.
You forget that a Bluetooth headset for the simple fact of being wireless already loses sound quality.
You also forget that the famous iPhones, until now, are not compatible with audiophile HI-RES sound (96-24) while many Androids are.
You forget that without a stereo jack, as the mobile does not have a good DAC, the sound loses quality ...

I am one of the first to defend the evolution of technology. But there are technologies that are simply simple and perfect, they do not need to evolve in the least. The 3.5 mm jack is one of them and I remind you that it is not only found in mobile equipment. The number of brands that implement it in their products is infinite and that they will not migrate to a USB-C port, simply because the 3.5mm jack is perfect, simple and it will always be cheaper than a USB-C plug. I agree with Iñaki, at least until the USB-C plug is approved as a sound standard, I am not going to buy a mobile without a 3.5 mm jack.

I'm starting to think that the cell phone companies agreed to eliminate the 3.5mm jack all together! 😮

The problem is not that they remove the jack since if they want to make such a slim body, they have to sacrifice things, what I do not think is that the modules come without the jack since you are going to add something extra because not putting a jack seems to me fairer . Especially with the audio module it should come or with the cases that only provide customization

One doubt, when we travel with my partner we use the double jack with 2 headphones to watch movies on the ipad, with the bluethoot technology at the moment it is not possible, and with the USB-C there are these double jacks?
