N26 already offers accounts with Spanish IBAN

Mobile. Fast Safe. Flexible. The N26 account is all this, and now also… Spanish! Thus begins the news of N26, the European mobile bank par excellence, which now announces its accounts with Spanish IBAN.

N26 has grown a lot in recent years, it has even crossed the Atlantic Ocean and is available in the US. It was one of the first to bring Apple Pay to Spain and other European countries And, of course, everything is through your app, no branches.

I have been using N26 since it arrived in Spain. An account without commissions and clear and a debit card that does not give you surprises was what attracted me the most (as well as the fact that it borders on being more of a technology company than a bank).

However, one of the few criticisms I had of the bank is that the account number, the IBAN, was from Germany. This only implies that instead of starting with ES… (as in Spain), they start with DE… (from Germany).

I say that only this changes, because the regulations of the European Union make it clear that any European IBAN is valid in any member country. But, more out of ignorance and laziness than because of a real difficulty or impediment, on many occasions employees tell you that they do not accept foreign accounts and it's not worth trying to explain the Regulation (EU) No. 260/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of March 14, 2012.

But this is now over, now the new N26 accounts will be 100% Spanish, IBAN included, so that there is no inconvenience. Of course, the Spanish IBAN does not imply any extra cost or anything like that.

If you already had an N26 account, and they gave you a German IBAN (there was no possibility of another), you can request the change to a Spanish one or keep German. To do this, you simply have to wait for an email to arrive that will notify you that you can change if you wish.
