Samsung does no favors with the facial recognition of its Note 8

Unlocking through facial recognition may be the big star of the next iPhone 8, to the detriment of Touch ID that will disappear if we listen to all the rumors. The new design of the iPhone 8 will force Apple to make this decision by not having space on the device to place a fingerprint sensor, at least on the front. However, this novelty has not been well received, what is the problem?

The fault lies with the devices that have tried to include this new technology and have done so with systems that we can qualify in any way less secure. The security flaws in these devices are more than proven and unlocking them is something as simple as bringing a photograph with sufficient quality. and thus circumvent this facial recognition system.

The latest episode is running around the internet like wildfire: the new Galaxy Note 8 is unlocked with a simple Facebook photo.

The video that is running like wildfire shows us how with a photo on the screen of any smartphone you can unlock a Galaxy Note 8 using the facial recognition system. It is not a 3D print or a high-resolution photograph printed at the highest quality, not at all: a simple photo on the screen of another mobile it is more than enough to circumvent this "security system" of Samsung in its new terminal. The author of the tweet ensures that even with Facebook profile photos he has managed to unlock the device. But this is not real.

I was able to verify this a long time ago with the S8, whose demo unit could be unlocked with anything that the front camera focused on. Myself, my son's face ... didn't matter. The same is happening with the Note 8, and it is to be expected that the final units do not have that problem and are somewhat more secure. But the question is why prove a function by cheating? It is as if you test a fake car before buying it and then take the original car without cheating. At least in the latter case it would be for the benefit of the brand, surpassing the authentic one, but in the case of Samsung it is rigged for the worse ... Incomprehensible. The only thing left to ask is that Apple beat the competition and show us something really safe and useful.

It would be very good if you informed yourself before saying certain nonsense, or failing that, at least read the comments dns Tweet in question since it is the demo mode, in which the device is unlocked if it detects ANY type of face. Yes, I know that in its day the S8 could be unlocked, but in the Note 8 they have already implemented an option in which it is impossible to unlock it with a simple photo, it does not go so fast to unlock the terminal but it is more secure. Too bad it is the readers who have to inform the editors, so goes the information and demagoguery. By the way, I write this from an iPhone 6 Plus and I've been on iOS since the iPhone 3G came out in Spain, so I don't exactly consider myself a Samsung fanboy, but you have to be more honest with the info you offer.

One question ... have you read the article? Because I think it is quite clear that I say that it is a demo unit and that the normal thing is that the final version does not have and is faulty. I try to inform myself as best as possible before writing, just as you should read the entire article before criticizing

The demo is purposely made for anyone to unlock because otherwise no one could test it ... I think it makes sense. So you haven't discovered any subtle flaws that samsung didn't see when you realized that ...
Wanting to twist things to present them as a defect distills bad faith and leaves this website at the level of a diffuser of lies about the competition. Or you have made a very big mistake ...

A demo is used to "demonstrate" the operation of something new so that the user can test it as it is in reality. If Samsung can't figure out how to show your face unlock working on demo devices, you first have a serious problem with your software engineers, and Second you can always disable it. To make the user believe that he has recognized his face when he would have actually recognized even a bologna sandwich in my opinion is a lie. In addition, and from what the article basically goes, it does a disservice to the device itself since they have found the trick quickly.

And allow me to reserve for myself what your comment distills and at what level it is situated.

Of course I have read the article, but do you not understand the difference between a "software" demo and a "Hardware" demo? These are not definitive units, but rather a program simply to show how facial recognition would work, just like Apple did in its day with Touch ID. If you say so much that you inform yourself, it would be good for you to clarify the info and write about the other 4 security measures that the device has, such as the iris, but that is better not to talk about because how it works and Apple does not seem to include it anymore. it serves. Also, if you had a note 8 in hand (or had informed yourself a bit) you would know that as I mentioned there is an option that although not so fast when unlocking prevents it from being unlocked with a photo, and the user is the one who can activate or deactivate this option when using facial recognition. Accept that you have made a mistake, anyone has a bad day, but do not try to justify yourself from something that you know is going with bad intentions.

If I had gone with malicious intent I would not have said what a demo unit is. And nothing you say about the Note 8 that it is a great terminal, justifies that Samsung has screwed up with its demo. A rigged feature demo, like it or not, acknowledge it or not, Samsung cheated again and got caught again.

The Samsung system, at least in the S8 was painful, or you had good light or it did not recognize you and if you wear glasses it also gives problems…. therefore I consider it a bad system (only marketing)…. now we will see if Apple improves it or it will be useless. It reminds me of the footprint recognition of the Note 4 that you got 1 out of 5 right.

As long as they spam or disrespect, of course. By the way, it doesn't matter if you change the name or the email, your IP gives you away, user "ripping"

Chicagueek ??? Putting someone else's nickname is very wrong, I don't know why some exalted people always jump to criticize and with bad manners, I think it is enough to say things in a good way, there is little left for the 12th we will see what comes out and what differences exist , I think Samsung fixed the one that could be easily unlocked with a photo.

I have been an iPhone user for a long time and they are all very good terminals but the tendency to try to get something out quickly, perhaps this leaving a bit of bugs ... Samsungs have a special design, I have always liked them, not their operating system, in terms of I think they are implementing this facial recognition technology already because the future is going there, I am imagining that from a certain distance you can look at your phone and it is activated and thus give orders, I think that kind of thing that you want to do Later is what has led to the release of this technology, but, you have to be careful because although the footprint of the problems it had was that it did not work at all well in some terminals at the beginning, it was perfected in terms of speed and security and I don't know if some mobile phone was able to mock, you will tell me ... but this facial recognition can lead to that .. to hacks through a photo ,, apple has been delayed for a long time to implement ntar a new technology until they have it well tested, hopefully so in this new iphone and it does not happen like in the s8 which is an excellent terminal but you know ... yes .. greetings to everyone in the forum
