New iPad Mini, Apple's mini goes Pro

Yesterday Apple held the Keynote in September 2021. A Keynote that is always focused on the launches of iPhone and Apple Watch and that's how it was fulfilled. A new range of iPhone 13, and an expected Apple Watch Series 7 somewhat decaffeinated for not bringing a new design. But Apple also wanted to surprise us with something else: the new iPad Mini. A new iPad of small dimensions that acquires the design of the new successor iPads of the Pro range. Keep reading that we tell you all the details ...

As you can see in the previous image, the iPad Mini returns to our news and does it in the best possible way. On many occasions we have talked about how versatile the iPad Mini is, the perfect iPad to carry it in our day to day and especially for its compatibility with the Apple Pencil. Apple brought us what we wanted: an Apple Mini with an iPad Pro design, a design that by the way already had the latest iPad Air, and which now comes to the reduced (and versatile iPad) version.

An edge-to-edge screen with thin edges and rounded corners, 8,3 inches. All of it protected by a 100% recycled aluminum housing available in Space Gray, Pink, Purple, or Star White. The screen (500 nits) by the way continues with True Tone technology and a wide color gamut that reduces reflections and allows us to have vivid colors and sharp texts.

And if the previous iPad Mini was compatible with the first generation Apple Pencil, this time Apple makes it compatible with the second-generation Apple Pencil (sold separately for € 135), Pencil that attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad Mini and even charges wirelessly.

Following Apple's interest in security, in this case they follow in the footsteps of the latest iPad Air and incorporate Touch ID on the top button of the iPad Mini. A Touch ID that many want to see on the iPhone but it seems that it never ends up coming. And you, do you prefer Touch ID to Face ID?

Okay, we are facing an iPad Mini with the limitations that this entails, the truth is that Apple has wanted to put its cards on the table and has taken the iPad Mini to a higher level. Obviously it does not incorporate the M1 processor of the iPad Pro, but in this new iPad Mini we have the new A15 Bionic, processor that by the way will mount in the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. A Six-core CPU that promises to be 40% faster and that it will even have him Apple's Neural Engine which will improve the speed of some workflows. By the way, according to Apple, the iPad Mini has a Five-core GPU, perfect for running the best games, or taking it to the limit in design applications.

El USB-C makes its stellar appearance on this iPad Mini as the only port, will allow us to charge it or even use any accessory compatible with USB-C (even external hard drives). And in terms of connections, Apple wanted to bring the iPad Mini to the level of the new iPhone 13: 5G connection and 6th generation Wi-Fi, the fastest connections on the market.

I will not focus much on the features of the camera, I've never been an advocate for iPads camerasAlthough you would be surprised how many people use their iPads as main cameras. It is remarkable the change of front camera that reaches 12 megapixels with ultra wide angle, and as we have seen in other iPads we will have the centered framing that will allow us to improve our video calls. The rear camera also improves with a wide angle that will somewhat improve our photos and even scan documents.

An iPad Mini that we can already reserve on the Apple website and that we can receive next Friday, September 24. All for a price of € 549 in its cheapest option (64 GB in Wifi version), up to € 889 in its maximum price (256 GB in Wifi + 5G version). A great option to take into account if you are interested in a very versatile device.
