NOMAD cases for iPhone 13, with MagSafe and virtual contact card

We tested the new Nomad Sport Case covers, compatible with MagSafe and also with an NFC function that includes a virtual business card that you can share just by bringing your mobile closer to another mobile.

Design and main features

Nomad abandons leather, a house brand for years, for plastic. These new cases have the same TPU frame around the entire edge of the iPhone, but the back is no longer in its characteristic Horween leather but in shiny plastic finished in various colours: Lunar Grey, Dune, Ash Green and Navy Blue. These colors correspond to the colors of your sports bands for Apple Watch, so you can go perfectly combined with your iPhone and smartwatch. The finish of this color is gloss, something that raised many doubts in my mind regarding scratch resistance, despite the fact that Nomad assures that the resistance is high. Indeed, after a couple of weeks of use and without intentional care, the back of my case is still flawless.

Another detail that changes in the Nomad covers and that hopefully comes to stay with the aluminum buttons. Apple does this on their leather cases, I don't know of any other manufacturer that does this on their cases, and I'm glad Nomad made the decision to use these new metal buttons that have a fantastic touch feel, with excellent pulsation and very good feedback. That said, from now on you want aluminum buttons on the covers.

Of course, they are compatible with the MagSafe system, something essential today to decide on carrying a case. This system started with a lot of doubts, and although I think it still has a long way to go, for me it has become fundamental, and it would be difficult for me to carry a case that does not include it. Put it in the car holder, on the charger on my desk, on the nightstand, put the MagSafe wallet on it… No MagSafe, no Game. It also doesn't include it in any way, it's a very strong grip, like what you can expect from original Apple cases. And as with Apple covers, inside you will only see a small circular mark on the microfiber, no stickers or other systems that you will see in other manufacturers.

NFC business card

Protection and design are the two main functions of a mobile case, but Nomad has added one more that I think is a fantastic idea that I have never seen in a case before: to include an NFC chip so you can "memorize" your business card in the case and share it with whoever you want in a simple way: you only have to bring your mobile closer to your case and bam! your contact card will appear on their mobile screen within seconds. To do this you must create your business card in the Popl app (link) which has a free service and a paid service. The free one is enough for most, but if you want a more professional and personalized look, you will have to go through the premium service.
