The new Qi2 standard is for everyone

Apple introduced the MagSafe system to the world with the launch of the iPhone 12, at the end of 2020. At first it seemed like a simple Apple marketing trick that added magnets to the existing wireless charging, but The passage of time has shown that it is a comfortable and efficient system that protects our iPhone of overheating that ends up damaging the battery, and that also offers many possibilities when creating accessories for the iPhone, whether they are charging (magnetic batteries that attach to our iPhone without the need for cables) or not (card holders, fastening rings , etc).

But there is a problem: MagSafe is Apple's proprietary technology, which means that it is exclusive to its products, and to manufacture accessories that work 100% with it, certification is necessary, which, of course, costs money. That is why the announcement of the Qi2 standard was great news that, finally, we began to be able to test on our devices. It is a universal standard, therefore open to everyone, in which Apple has participated and which will allow you to enjoy the advantages of the MagSafe system but on any device, regardless of the brand, without the need for certification by Apple. . That is, it is basically a MagSafe system accessible to everyone, and therefore cheaper.

Nomad Stand Qi2

This new base from Nomad is like its Stand One base, which is MagSafe certified, but now compatible with the Qi2 standard. This means that it offers us 15W charging power and magnetic attachment to any compatible device. What devices are compatible? Well, all iPhones from 13 onwards, both normal and Pro. And all the Android phones that want to implement this functionality, which at the moment do not seem too interested. And what about the iPhone 12? It is compatible with MagSafe, but not with Qi2, so you can use this charger (it has the necessary magnets to hold it) but not reach 15W of power, it will only remain at 7.5W.

The good thing is that not only the iPhone is compatible with the MagSafe system, but also the AirPods Pro 2, and the AirPods 3. Although it may seem a bit strange, the AirPods attach magnetically to the base and remain perfectly secure and on load. So the only thing we can't recharge in this Nomad Qi2 base would be our Apple Watch. AND We can put the iPhone in horizontal and vertical positions, to use it in Stand By mode and have a desktop clock that shows us calendar widgets, weather information or music and podcast controls.

Nomad Quality

Using a universal standard does not mean having to give up premium materials, far from it. The Nomad Stand Qi2 is made of glass and metal, with a shiny front, which is a magnet for fingerprints but when clean it is so beautiful that you forget that you will have to clean it from time to time. It is a solid device, made of a single piece of metal, and weighing 604 grams which means we can remove the iPhone from the base without it moving., with one hand. The included two-meter braided nylon cable with USB-C connectors is also unusual for it to be included in a charger box. What we are missing is the power adapter, we will have to use one that we have at home and that has at least a power of 20W.
