The most famous is Google Maps, but in this article we are not going to talk about the maps of the great search engine. The reason is simple: we cannot download the maps of any area and what we want is an application that allows us to download any map. The best free offline maps that also guide us by voice are the Nokia Here.
A long time ago, Nokia acquired one of the two most important cartography companies and offered quality maps on their phones, free of charge and that allowed us download virtually any map of the world as many times as we wanted, so it was not mandatory to leave them stored on the device. And now, for a long time, we have those maps available on iOS.
How to Download Maps from Nokia Here
First of all, comment that you have to be registered with Nokia Here (you can from the app) to download the maps.
Next, we carry out the following steps:
- We play on all three lines.
- We tap on Download maps.
- We tap on Get your map now.
- We look for the map that we want to download.
- We tap on the down arrow and wait for it to download.
- Finally, to return to the map, we touch several times on the arrow to return. They could have already added a button to go back to the maps directly.
And that's it. Using the maps is quite intuitive. You just have to do a search from the magnifying glass, then tap on the arrows icon and choose the means of transport. Of course, the voice in Spanish must also be downloaded or it will speak to us in English. The voice in Spanish can be improved, but the important thing is that we get the instructions right.
The maps they are for free right now, but we don't know what it will be like in the future as Audi, BMW and Daimler recently bought them. Hopefully things don't change, because the maps are very good. And if they are also free and we can use them offline, what more can we ask for?
* If we have an iphone 1.1.13 or higher: first the iLM 1.1.13+ Fix package and then the iLM package in this order.

It is very important that the folder where the files that Global Map is going to create in the first step will be downloaded begin with an underscore "_". To avoid problems, I create it previously with the windows explorer and then I look for it in Global Maps with the "set" button, which is at the top.
After clicking on "Uncheck any tiles with ..." the program creates in the folder that begins with _ five GPSFS files that are NOT yet the ones to be copied to the iPhone.
Next we click on the «-> iPhn» key, and in «Map Name…:» we will put the route where we have downloaded the map, and which will normally appear already written. In Output, to avoid problems, I have left the path that appears by default, which creates the iphone_map folder on the Desktop, and that after pressing the button «Process (click here…)» and waiting for it to finish, it will contain two files , «Com.apple.Maps.plist» and «MapTiles.sqlitedb» which are the ones we have to upload to our iPhone.
To avoid problems, if we want to repeat the process more times with new maps, I delete the iphone_map folder from the desktop, and start the process.
