The pen works with the Paper app for iPad and connects to the app via Bluetooth 4.0 LE, so consumption is really minimal. The battery module is removed from inside for charging via a USB port.
The device mimics the look of a traditional carpenter's pencil. It is made from walnut wood from sustainable forests (always good to know). It has a variant of aluminum in graphite color. You don't want calibration or setup other than pairing it with the iDevice.
As well can be used if you don't have a battery, but several important functions will be disabled such as discarding the support of the hand when drawing.
