Radar Zapper: a complete radar warning device

to remember

Currently we have several applications in the App Store that accompany us on our trips to warn us when we are going to find a radar on the road. This week we had the opportunity to test a new bet: Radar Zapper, which is one of the most complete tools that we have used and that launches today in the App Store. With Radar Zapper, which is updated punctually every week, we forget that we are fined for having exceeded the speed limit on a section controlled by radar.

The application can be used in the background, without consuming hardly any battery and integrates with any browser. It is a radar warning device that will not only be useful for Spanish territory, but we can also use it in several European countries, since it has more than 380.000 points of interest. In Radar Zapper are the radars of Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Belenux, Greece, Norway, Poland, Austria, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland.

When you open the application for the first time, you will see how it connects to the server to download the latest speed camera database.

La Radar Zapper interface is very simple. The first tab is dedicated to navigation and the detection of radars itself: just by pressing once in the center of the screen, we will start the alarm. The second tab, Radars, shows you your current location and the radars that are close to your position. In addition, the application contains an option to Notify of any radar that is not included in the map and contains a very useful Help section to learn how the application works. Finally, in Settings you can modify the alerts you want to receive and the distance (in meters) with which you want to be notified of the presence of a radar.

In short, we are facing the most complete radar detection application that we have tested to date. You can find it in the App Store for 1,79 euros.

There are times when I think that with answers like you are, people like Pablo Ortega deserve heaven ... Can't you say things differently ?:

“Pablo, I think it is not a detector, as we all know the current law in the case of Spain penalizes the use of detectors, and this corresponds to an app that alerts you by the global positioning system of the radars (GPS). Anyway, thank you very much for the entry, it is a pleasure to read you. "

Let us be more educated, and value the effort made by people like Pablo Ortega and company. By the way, thanks for all the effort you make Pablo. Greetings and thanks for everything.

Vic, a point (off-topic total 😀). Spanish law sanctions the use of radar inhibitors that affect their operation, allowing you to drive at whatever speed you want without the radar being able to fine you. Detectors (those that are capable of catching radar emissions on the fly but do not prevent their operation) are allowed after the last modification of the law.

Thanks!!!! I only put it as an example of making a comment on a news item, but thanks for the tip! One more thing to learn, not bad!

I understood that radar detectors are also prohibited. Different is when it comes to consulting a database that advises where they should be.

Not really if the law has been modified or not in terms of what you comment, but as I understand the detectors, whether they are also inhibitory or not, are prohibited because they make use of the frequency in which the police radars work (to be able to detect them, that is, they interfere in it), and this frequency is exclusively restricted to the use of them, the police, as the rest of the frequency spectrum is distributed in the same way and you can not make use of the frequency, for example that uses a specific radio station, even more so if this frequency is intended for police use. The frequency spectrum is not free, it is distributed and limited, each range having its "owner".

As for the application, which is what concerns us here, in my opinion it leaves a lot to be desired, it beeps the radars that are in the opposite direction, many times it does not beep when it has to beep and for example it warns of the traffic light radar in the middle of the highway ... No It is by no means a good product, just use it for a while to be able to check it.

I understand that a blog of this reputation will be aware of a series of laws that have been the subject of reports in both news and research programs.

It is to be a BAD journalist / editor that type of confusion and more in the title of a news

It is curious that then entering the appl store has 0 ratings, but you give it 5 stars. Is it a personal rating?

    1.    Pablo_Ortega said

That is not our assessment. It is a plugin linked to the App Store

Well that is precisely why we wanted to avoid words like buzzer and detector, and simply call it 'Radar Zapper'. What the app does is compare your position with a database and then (detect / warn / locate / show,…) the radar on the screen. The term is the least important thing is that it works well and that we drive safely and not get crushed with fines.

Toni the module that blogs use takes the appraisals from the AppStore. The people of Apple wait to have 5 reviews to show the average marks that the app has and this module (used by all the websites in the world) takes the average even if there is only one review. Right now, opening day, there is a 5 star review so it puts 5 there. By the way, if tomorrow the app had a grade of 3 or 2 or whatever, said module would update the grade because it is something dynamic.

In any case, thank you all very much for your comments, tweets and likes. Developers like to read blogs (and at Atom we are regulars of this) in order to inform ourselves, to know first-hand what people think of our products and to improve as much as possible.

    Greetings to all!

      A suggestion.

Moving around the map is a bit uncomfortable as it interrupts the movement by updating the position of the radars. Can't you fix that annoyance by having the data update asynchronously?

It's a good idea, I have also found that little snag.

      2.    Alejandro Luengo Gomez said

Yes, we are working on that feature, but before we have uploaded 1.1 with night mode, we have removed the banner that bothered people and we have made some graphical improvements. :))) Thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting. Anger that I do not have a recharge in my iTunes account, but I bought it now.

Funny how things change. My father has a device that fulfills the same function, and to top it off, it is much less aesthetic (it is not a detector, but a warning device) and the device cost more than 100 euros.

Now, with a very clean interface, from what I see in the description, and less than two euros, we can have the same, more aesthetic, cleaner, more updated and without extra devices, in application format.

I love technology, especially when it proves useful.

What I would like to know is what does this app provide unlike others, which as you say there are several, why should we pay the € 1,79 that are advertised, or else this is an advertising post. Does it integrate with Google Maps? When I am in my car listening to music through the BT aux it will work for sure, but what if I am listening to the radio and the iPhone, which is hooked to the BT by the phone obviously, how does it warn me? That is what I want and do not have: to warn me, to hear it and not always through the aux BT, that I can discriminate. s2.

Ferran, if you want to fiddle with the app for a while, get in touch with us through our support email (it's on the Atom Studios website) and we'll give you a free copy of Radar Zapper so you can test these issues. We are sure that you will love our app. You will tell us!
