After having tasted the fantastic Creative Roar, now it is the turn of the Creative Woof 2, a new batch Bluetooth speaker that stands out for its contained size and commitment to sound quality.
Funny how most of portable bluetooth speakers out there today, they boast of high volumes and when you listen to them live, there is no one who can handle such power. They sound loud, yes, but they also sound bad. This is nothing more than a marketing technique similar to that of megapixels with mobile cameras and that is that more is not always better, and the Creative Woof 2 is proof of this.
Creative Woof 2, first impressions
With a striking design that is further accentuated thanks to its chrome housing (very fond of footprints), the Creative Woof 2 surprises the first time we have it in hand. It is not one of the smallest that I have had but it is not one of the largest, maintaining a contained size (65,8 x 99,1 x 96,6 mm) that does not penalize to take it anywhere, even if we travel frequently.
Its weight is 276 grams, again, a middle ground between the lightest and other heavier options but in any case, a figure that does not penalize the portability factor.
Thanks to bluetooth connection, the Creative Woof 2 can be used wirelessly with our iPhone or any other audio source that has this protocol. There is also the possibility of using the auxiliary input based on 3,5 mm jack, thus covering the two most common connections currently used.
Finally and before going into the matter of sound quality, the Creative Woof 2 can be used as a hands-free. In the upper area we have a large button that allows us to interact with calls and thanks to the integrated microphone, we can talk to the other person directly from the speaker.
Sound quality
I wish there were more brands with the Creative philosophy. It is not about converting a portable speaker into a 5.1, it is about being able to take our favorite music anywhere, with a decent volume and the best possible sound quality. In all this the Creative Woof 2 is right.
As they say, the speaker is small but bully and behind its futuristic appearance, hides a quality product that has been studied to the millimeter to offer the best possible sound quality.
Unlike competing products, the Creative Woof 2 is not garish on highs, has no canned mids, and no distorting lows as soon as the volume is turned up a bit. Creative's product offers us a clean and clear reproduction at any frequency, allowing us to enjoy defined bass and medium and high frequencies that fill the room in equal parts.
The best thing is that it does not matter the volume at which we listen to the music from Creative Woof 2, the speaker behaves well and it does not lose the papers when we try to get the colors out of it in high volumes. What's more, there we can appreciate the great work done by the company on the subject of bass, making them stay forcefully and not distort at all.
Sincerely, the Creative Woof 2 it bypasses speakers smaller and larger than it. Simply because stereotypes of high volumes have been left behind and they have opted for quality. Why do we want excessive volume if it sounds so bad that it gets deep inside our body? That will not happen to us with the Creative Woof 2.
And be careful, this speaker does not sound low at all, it has simply been avoided to go beyond certain levels in which a speaker of this size can no longer perform adequately.
In total we will have up to six hours of continuous playback thanks to its internal battery. We miss an extra hour to not worry about it for longer but with a full charge cycle, it will cover the daily needs of many.
As the only negative point, the location of the buttons can be greatly improved. The power switch is on the support base and the playback control buttons are at the bottom, forcing us to lift the speaker every time we want to press any of them. It is true that most of the time we will use the iPhone for this but a more accessible position would not have been bad.
Conclusions
There are many portable speakers that have passed through my hands and by chance or not, Creative's top the list of those with the best sound quality.
Taking into account the size of this Woof 2, we must assess the work that is behind this product, always assuming that we are facing a Portable speaker It is not intended to replace any home sound system (2.1, home theater, etc.).
