The "right to repair" could be a reality in California too

The obsolescence program has always been on the lips of many users and since Apple announced that it reduced the performance of its devices to improve the battery life in older devices, these words have reached the high places, becoming an increasingly big problem for many manufacturers.

California wants to join the rest of the states where they want to create a law that allows large manufacturers to users can repair their devices wherever they consider, without having to resort to the official service as long as they want to discuss the official guarantee offered by the manufacturer when buying a product.

In addition to California, the state where Apple's headquarters are located, the states of Washington, Vermont, New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Hersey, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Missouri want to allow users freely choose the repair center where to solve any incident that you have with your product, preserving its warranty and with original components.

If this bill finally sees the light, Apple would be forced not only to provide the corresponding original components, but also, would require you to supply the necessary repair manuals to be able to carry out the repairs successfully, without the device being rendered useless by the bad practice of the establishment.

However Apple would not be the only company that would be affected in this regard, since it would be all the manufacturers of electronic products, those that would see their official technical service cease to be a source of income for the company. If we suffer a mishap in the product that is not covered by the guarantee, many are the users who resort to unofficial establishments to try to repair their products, due to the high prices of the official centers.

Tech makers claim that if this bill sees the light, device security would be compromised, but it seems that it is not reason enough that the right to freely repair the devices is going to be one more anecdote. This project began in 2017 with 12 states that signed up, while the two months that we have been in 2018, 6 more have signed up.
