Runtastic MountainBike Pro, now free

Those who know me know that I really like the world of mountain bikes and sports. Due to its capabilities, the iPhone has become a common road companion and the Runtastic MountainBike Pro application is ideal for keeping track of all our outings.

Application makes use of GPS location to obtain our position and to calculate a whole series of data that we can consult in real time and in the complete statistics of the route. Among these data we can see:

  • Route time
  • Distance
  • Altitude
  • Rough calculation of calories consumed
  • Meters that we have ascended / descended
  • Current / average / maximum speed

We can also combine Runtastic MountainBike Pro functionality with sensors sold separately and that will provide us with other data such as heart rate, pedaling cadence and road speed calculated based on the size of our wheel. Unfortunately, these accessories are very expensive and detract from the application in favor of other devices such as Polar heart rate monitors.

So starting from the basic (but very complete) use of Runtastic MountainBike Pro, we can have complete control of all our routes. We can even listen to our usual music, establish a specific song for the hardest moments or save the maps offline for those moments when we do not have coverage.

Once the route is finished, the application offers us the possibility of complement the data obtained with others that we enter manually and that allow us to indicate the area through which we have gone, our mood, room temperature, heart rate, cadence and a last section for notes.

All the routes we do will be stored in the History and we can share them both by social networks and by email, so we can challenge our usual partner.

Runtastic Mountainbike

Runtastic MountainBike Pro is an application that usually costs 4,99 euros and that you can now enjoy for free for a limited time. That if, remember that the battery consumption of this application is very demanding so if you do long routes, better buy a case with internal battery to extend the autonomy of the iPhone.

The iphone already has gps .. Why spend money on this ???? When I went for a run, I used the Nike application and it marked the route and speed, etc. The truth is, it is excellent without using a data plan.

Until now I used the sports traker, it was very good. On Saturday I will try this to see how it is. Has anyone ever compared it?

I was also with the SportsTracker that my friends use on FB, but I have tried this 2 times this week and the truth is that I like it a lot more.
What I notice is that it does suck more battery.
I usually do routes of 2h 30min and before with the SportsTracker with the mobile at 100% I arrived with the battery at 40-50 and with this I arrived about 20-30.
What I have read is that the Runstatic one if you take away the 3G, wifi, etc ... it still has the EDGE without losing the position at any time, but I have not tried that yet.

      Hi Dave!

To use runtastic you don't need to have internet 😉…. that you have GPS is more than enough! You only need internet if you want activity with real-time tracking or when uploading your workouts to the runtastic.com site, but to record your activity with GPS it is enough ... that way you save a lot of battery 😉
