Samsung will add blood pressure measurement to its new Galaxy Watch Active

Smartwatches, especially following in the wake of the Apple Watch, they are focusing on monitoring users' health and exercise.

The latest Apple Watch series 4 introduced an electrocargiograph that is now available in the US and Samsung has not wanted to be left behind with its new Galaxy Watch Active.

To compete with the Apple Watch series 4, Samsung has announced that its new Galaxy Watch Active will receive an update that will make its watch capable of measuring blood pressure.

Measuring blood pressure is a widely used and very useful resource at the household level And many people have automatic blood pressure monitors at home to keep track of their blood pressure. Adding this ability to a watch that we always carry would allow us to obtain these informative measurements in any situation and place.

We don't yet know exactly how it will work, although Samsung tells us that we will need to install the My BP Lab app on the Galaxy Watch Active. We also know that it will use the heart rate sensors of the watch itself, although to calibrate them we will need a traditional blood pressure monitor. This is so because it seems that the sensors of the Galaxy Watch Active will not measure blood pressure directly, but will calculate it as it varies, which, in my opinion, greatly limits the quality of the results.

This feature will be available in March and will arrive in the US, UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia and Germany.

Both the electrocardiogram that we obtain with the Apple Watch series 4, and this new blood pressure measurement of the Galaxy Watch Active, are very useful and interesting functions, but we must remember that they have nothing to do and Ideally, the same device would allow us to obtain both measurements. Although I do not doubt that if Samsung has been able to add a blood pressure monitor, Apple will be able to add it in the future Apple Watch.
