Using your iPad in desktop mode is a reality that has more and more followers, and Satechi offers us a support that not only puts you in the perfect position to work but also offers you all the connections you need to connect accessories.
Features
This Satechi Aluminum Stand and Hub is made of aluminum, as its name indicates. It is a solid block with the appearance of withstanding the use and passage of time very well, which has a very intelligent design that allows us not only to use it as a support for the iPad but also to store the USB-C connection cable inside it when it is folded It is specifically intended for use with the iPad Pro 11″ or 12,9″, but can also be used with the same features on the new iPad Air., even why not, the latest iPad mini that already has the USB-C connection. But we could also use it with a MacBook Air or Pro, without problems.
This aluminum material is combined with other silicone padding that protects the surface of your iPad when placed in the holder. You can use some iPad protective case that is not too thick (up to 15mm) no problem with this stand from Satechi. The support is not adjustable in inclination, although the fixed position is very comfortable to work, I would have liked some more option. It also has rubber feet that prevent scratching the surface where you place it as well as being non-slip.
When unfolding the support, we discover a space dedicated to storing the USB-C cable that we must connect to our iPad for the rest of the connections to work. It is a fantastic idea to avoid losing the cable, when we don't use it, everything stays in a small aluminum box with a very compact size, perfect to put in any bag or backpack. The downside is that the cable cannot be removed, but the construction of the cable is quite strong and I don't think it gives the slightest durability problem.
As for the connections we have, Satechi offers us the ones that we most commonly need in our daily work with our iPad.
- HDMI with 4K support at 60Hz
- USB-C PD with power up to 60W (does not transmit data, only charges)
- USB-A 3.0 with transmission speed up to 5 Gbps
- 3.5mm jack for audio input and output
- SD and microSD slots (UHS-I: up to 104 MB/s)
All ports are located on the back of the device, it is intended to be placed on a desktop, connected to a monitor, speakers, hard drives, etc. It is not necessary to unfold the stand for it to work, we can use it folded as long as we remove the connection cable. I only miss that the USB-C port allowed data input, and there may be those who miss an Ethernet connection, I personally do not. Connections work as expected and you can transfer very large files without fear of disconnections unexpected
