Trump effect: Sharp prepares to manufacture in the United States

Trump and Sharp

"It's all laughter until ..." is what I'm thinking right now. The phrase of laughter is used a lot on the Internet and in this case we could apply it to when Trump, while still a candidate for the White House, said that he would force Apple to "make its damn computers" in the United States. At first no one believed it possible, hence the laughs, but the Cupertino partners are moving to have a presence in the North American country. Sharp is the last company to mention its plans to manufacture in the USA.

According to Reuters, Sharp will start a $ 7.000bn project to build a factory in the United States before June this year. Sharp would thus join Foxconn, a company that announced plans to manufacture components in the US earlier this year. The deadlines do not cease to surprise if we take into account that Donald Trump has not been in the White House for a month and that the interested companies have thought start manufacturing in North American territory in summer.

Sharp and Foxconn approach the United States

Sharp is one of the companies that provide panels to Apple and most likely it will do the same on the iPhone 8, as the iPhone that the Cupertino people will present in 2017 is known. If the rumors are true, the screen of the most important iPhone of this year, we remember that could reach up to 3 devices, it would be OLED. The only downside is that the new Sharp factory would not arrive in time to manufacture these panels, but would still have to wait until 2018 to meet the deadlines for the next iPhone.

The new information comes after the Japanese Prime Minister meets with the President of the United States Donald Trump, who prefers that American devices are manufactured in his own territory and not in China. Japan wants to be considered by the United States and they plan to invest to create hundreds of jobs in the US, something to which the new Sharp factory would contribute.

Now it only remains to be seen what this whole story translates into. The only thing I can say is that I hope that the quality of the devices does not drop and, above all, that their price does not go up.
