Smartwatch sales drop 50% in 2016

Smartwatch sales fall

It seems that smartwatch sales are not going through their best moment. This is confirmed by IDC (via Business Wire), where they assure that the Smartwatch sales have fallen 51.6% in the third quarter of 2016, or what is the same, they have sold half that in the same period of 2015. What does this decrease in sales mean? Has this type of device ceased to interest us or is there something else?

Well, keep in mind that the original Apple Watch went on sale in the second quarter of 2015, but it was not until the third that it was already available in almost everyone. In 2016, all the rumors pointed to Apple launching a new model, so there were few of us who waited for the fourth quarter of the year to buy the Apple Watch Series 2.

Half of smartwatches were sold in the past quarter

The information published by IDC ensures that in the third quarter of 2015 they were sold, or rather they were sent, 5.6 million smartwatches, While in the third quarter of 2016, 2.7 million units were shipped. The one that has suffered the most important fall has been the Apple Watch, down approximately 2 million units in the last quarter, which reinforces the theory that those of us who wanted to buy a watch from the apple were waiting to see what they presented in September. On the other hand, Samsung stayed practically the same, shipping 400.000 units.

To explain what is happening, in addition to the fact that the Apple Watch Series 2 went on sale at the end of the third quarter, it should also be mentioned that the watch market A it doesn't help much either, and by this I mean There are no new devices that may be of interest to new buyers. On the other hand, the new proposals from Pebble and Samsung have yet to be launched.

Keep in mind that the smartwatch market is a relatively new market and immature. Most likely, we will see these types of swings until it settles a little more. What do you think? Are you interested in this type of device?

I see that we are finally more intelligent buyers, for once again, that we do not get used to it

But it is also that lately it is always more of the same, what a boredom

I have the Apple Watch 1 and it is not bad, but its enormous cost, 600 dollars is not justified. Half the price would already pay well enough for its benefits, something that Apple should not care about, but those of us who must take the bills out of our pockets do.

Normal. More useless and expensive gadget there is not.

I had an Apple Watch and I ended up selling it, it's not something for everyone even if they sell it to you like that.

In this comments section: Cuñadoisms ("smartwatches are useless" and other categorical statements by our experts at the Univers ... from the corner bar) and people who criticize the device for not having money to buy one. Welcome to Spain!

There are not only very brother-in-law. There are also stupid things that justify it even if the thing is of little use.

They are another type of brother-in-law. It is simply that the headline calls the haters more.

It is not a useless device, nor is it the quintessence of communications. But of course the one who is calling the rest of the "fools" for buying a device seems much more stupid and annoying to me than the one who (sadly) defends it to death out of pride. Both lack a critical sense.

I have been wearing an Apple Watch for almost a year and it has a very specific customer market. Not everyone would take advantage of it. It is not a mobile. But I owe my life to mine. It warned me when I hit 25 wpm. Now I carry an Apple Watch…. and a pacemaker ...

That's why sales go down with only three years ... because of how useful they are. You are very smart

In specific cases a watch of this type can be very useful. But not for most of the things they have tried to sneak up on us with.

The Apple Watch 1 was a scam, it serves the same purpose as a mi. Round off, Apple should replace the users who bought it with the Apple Watch Series 2.
