Spotify Just Announced Its First Quarter Financial Results fiscal 2019 that ended on March 31, and does so with dizzying numbers.
We are living in a time when Spotify and Apple Music share the majority of the on-demand music market, while others, such as Amazon and YouTube (Google), try to open a gap by attracting users.
Spotify paying users now number 100 million according to the press release, 32% more than the previous year and, as they say, a significant number they wanted to reach.
Meanwhile, monthly active users have also grown 26% compared to last year and they are located in the 217 million monthly active users of Spotify (either paid or using the free version of Spotify).
Another piece of news from the press release is that Spotify is already in 79 countries, including India, which was incorporated in February of this year and which already has more than two million users in the country.
They make special mention of the success of the Google Home mini campaign, for which Spotify Premium users in the United States, United Kingdom and France could order a Google Home mini for free. As well as they also mention their alliance with Hulu (in the United States) for which the joint price of both services is reduced even more.
Compared to Apple Music, the last official Apple number spoke of 50 million paying users, half that of Spotify, although in less uptime. Without a doubt, they are the strongest competition in the streaming music market, especially in the United States and Europe.
However, many other companies, such as Amazon, seem to be betting heavily on music streaming services as well. We can only see if Spotify ends up taking its own connected speaker as Apple has already done and as Amazon and Google already had.
