When it seemed that the arrival of Apple Music to the streaming music market could revolutionize the market and turn it around, Spotify has just presented the data for the year 2015 with impressive figures. Currently the company has 28 million paying subscribers and it plans to reach 30 million between March and April this year.
The latest official figures provided by the company, last June of the year, reflected that the Swedish firm Spotify had 20 million paying subscribers and a total of 75 million active users (using the free service), so in just 6 months, they have achieved 8 new million users.
These 8 new million users is an impressive achievement considering that Spotify has achieved it almost at the same time that Apple has achieved its 11 million subscribers, but those from Cupertino started from the advantage of belonging to the Apple ecosystem, an added point to take into account.
The Swedish group is seeking financing to carry out new projects, which may have to do with Pandora, a service that a few days ago announced its financial results for last year, offering a loss of 150 million dollars. Keep in mind that currently your biggest adversary is Pandora, not Apple Music.
If Spotify is currently the king of streaming music, if it finally got Pandora, it would be a music streaming service that is very difficult to beat in terms of number of users, where Apple Music would have a hard time reaching. Anyway it is a simple rumor, that I do not think will come to fruition.
In recent months, Spotify has dedicated itself to adding new features like video content from different providers, a service to which I have not seen much sense since it is not related to music but to sports services, humor, information in general.
