A couple of weeks ago we informed you of Belkin's plans to offer all its smart devices the possibility of being compatible with the Apple HomeKit platform, a point in favor of the company that had previously announced that it was eliminating compatibility from its range Wemo with the Apple protocol, despite having been one of the first companies to support this technology. Belkin stated that all existing devices on the market would be, but taking into account that compatibility is not only a matter of software, but that hardware also influences it, it was difficult for us to know how it would achieve it. We already know, across the Wemo Bridge.
Smart devices that are not compatible with HomeKit require a kind of bridge to be able to centralize the control of them in a device, something that with HomeKit is not necessary. Belkin has fixed this problem with the Wemo Bridge, a device that communicates with all Wemo range devices and that in turn connects to the router at our home and that will be the gateway to connect with HomeKit and be able to control them all.
The Wemo Bridge will not only allow Belkin company's smart devices to connect to HomeKit, but also it will also allow you to communicate with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and else. Today the Belkin Wemo range offers us smart switches, plugs, dimmers and cameras.
The application to manage all smart devices is very complete and similar to the options that Apple offers us through the Home application, but in this way we can install different smart devices and manage them all together from the same device without making use of the manufacturers applications. At the moment the company has not announced the price of the Wemo Bridge.
