Instagram CEO says there will be no iPad app for now

They are one of those things that a priori are not understood much, if you are not within the companies involved and you know the reasons that lead them to make certain decisions that are somewhat incomprehensible. One of these is why there is no Instagram app for iPad. It is not explained.

The Instagram social network is already a few years old but it is still fully in force. It is mainly based on sharing your images: photos and videos. We agree that the cameras on iPads are not exactly the most suitable for taking good photos to be published, but instead they do have magnificent screens and an Instagram app on iPad would be great. Today the CEO of the company has spoken about it, putting off the matter.

We are in 2020 and it seems incomprehensible that there is still no iPad application for Instagram, one of the most important social networks in the world. This weekend a user asked Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, via Twitter, and he answered.

mosseri argues that the reason why they have not developed an application for iPad is that the company does not have enough resources to maintain Instagram on two different platforms like iPhone and iPad. We all know that Instagram was bought by Facebook in 2012, so that "lack of resources" does not creep in.

His verbatim words have been:

We'd like to create an iPad app, and even though we have a lot of people, we have a lot to do, and it's not our next priority yet.

Over the years there have been several third-party applications for iPad that used the Instagram API, but the company changed that API and removed them from the market, without actually developing an application of its own. They are based on the fact that there is enough with the Instagram web application on iPad, and it can be added to the home screen with Safari. Obviously, it would not be the same as a good dedicated application.

I said, they are business decisions that are not well understood. It would not cost so much to explain the reason for this somewhat incomprehensible position, and not to excuse oneself by saying that they have a lack of resources. Surely Mark Zuckerberg was not amused by this tweet.
