The EU will propose a single universal charger for all smartphones in September

It seems that the European Commission is going to get tough on the issue of smartphone chargers. His idea is to propose in September a law so that all mobile phones use the same universal current charger, to avoid electronic waste.

A priori the idea seems good. For everyone except Apple, of course. "Almost" all smartphone manufacturers have already abandoned the micro USB connector and have switched to USB-C, so the law does not affect them at all. And that "almost" is because Apple is still determined to keep its exclusive Lightning connector on iPhones. So mess up the song.

Yahoo! Finance just posted a report where he explains the EU's plans for September. Propose a law to unify a universal charger model for all smartphones on the market, and thus reduce electronic waste.

A boat soon seems like a good idea. We all have chargers in our drawers at home and in the office that we do not use and that we end up throwing away, since in the end we usually use a single charger to recharge several devices. Apple, aware of this problem, no longer supplies charger in the boxes of its iPhones, to avoid this "waste" of chargers that we don't use.

This EU idea, if the law is finally passed, will not affect 99% of smartphone manufacturers. All have already migrated from the old micro USB connector to the new USB-C. But the remaining 1% is Apple. It is the only manufacturer that is still determined to use your own exclusive connector.

Although those of Cupertino have already given their arm to twist in the iPad Pro and in the iPad Air, with USB-C connectors, all iPhones continue to maintain the exclusive Apple connector, the famous connector lightning.

So we will see how this new EU bill affects if it passes. Perhaps, seeing them coming, Apple anticipates and the next iPhone 13 already incorporate the USB-C connector. We will see.
