The European Union insists on the micro USB as a charger. What will Apple do?

micro usb as standard

Surely some of our readers remember that the European Union back in 2011 tried to impose a standard charger model on all technology manufacturers. Obviously, it only takes a glance at the current market to realize that it failed. At least not at all. It cannot be denied that advances have been made and that many technology manufacturing companies have signed the micro USB as the model to consider for powering your gadgets. But not all have, and not all will.

This week seems kind of ultimatum of the European Union, although it is actually an ultimatum that goes on for a long time. In fact, previous attempts are postponed and a rather late date is placed on the calendar to standardize said battery power connection. In fact, now they say that companies have until 2017. Will Apple heed the recommendations? Or will it remain firm as always in its purpose of differentiation on the issue of chargers and connection cables?

The video that I leave you below refers precisely to the statements of the entity on the subject. But seeing that they have relaunched it over and over again, seeing that not all companies stayed with the norm, and no serious sanction has been imposed on the matter, it particularly gives me the impression that in this sense Apple will remain in the same line, and it will be very difficult to see a iPhone or iPad with a micro USB.

The reasons are pretty obvious. We actually find that Apple obtains some benefits with its own format that I could not keep with the shared. In addition, it reserves the right that others cannot copy it thanks to the patents it registers on these products. And in the case of unauthorized Chinese copies, the association of these to accidents with gadgets begins to work so that we buy the originals. And leaving all this for good, without penalty and with the micro USB as a base, does not compensate from any point of view.

Regardless of who benefits and who harms, to me the micro USB connector seems flimsy, fragile, and terrible when plugging it in. They should have created a much more robust standard and it doesn't matter if it plugs in from the right side or the other side.

Well, they have not given me problems, and I use it for the charger of the headphones, and other family phones. It will be flimsy, but if it breaks it doesn't cost a single euro, how much will Apple's worth? Cross out….

flimsy??? but what to me, are you counting
weak the iPhone we already know from experience the poor durability of apple chargers and for the record I have ipad macbook pro and these chargers peel off their outer protector with nothing!
I would rather have a micro usb for everything and not have to spend 30 bucks for an apple cable !!!

I have my first iPhone 3GS charger, my first iPhone (well, rather, my mother has it), and she still uses her original charger and her original cable, which the only thing that has suffered is a color change to a darker gray . The rest of the cables of my iPhone 4, 4S and 5, iPad Mini and iPad 3 are perfect, like the first day. I'm not going to talk about which one is better (I have it clear), but to say that the iPhone cable is weak ... not at all.

I'm not sure but I would say that what the EU has legislated is that there must be a universal charger but I would say that they have not established that it has to be the micro USB, right? I think the approved text is not yet available but the press release only says that the euro chamber calls for the adoption of a common charger. Someone to confirm it?

Mediocre the European Union! They know that the apple cable is better and they want to remove it?

The micro usb 3.1 will be reversible, I think with higher data transmission speed and higher voltage or amperage. Therefore ... if it is with these conditions, I don't know what problems lightning fanboys have.

Well, I have iPhone cables and I know people who break super fast.
is more my work partner bought the iPhone and began to skin the USB cable leaving it in the guts of the wiring
And if you need another cable for the car or because it breaks, we don't have to spend 30 bucks

DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND 30 TURKEYS FOR A CABLE ??
my mother I would prefer a USB without more ,,,, so much nonsense of a special cable for a device!

Luis you must recognize that not all of us keep our cables and Apple devices on an altar and we worship them 5 times a day.
The issue here is really the economy, not having to spend 30 bucks for a cable for the car, another 30 for the cable that you carry in your backpack and briefcase and another 30 for the one you leave at home is 90 (eye I assume the worst worst of the cases) while with a micro Usb that if its aesthetics are ugly and it is not reversible, its cost would be lower, which is good for us, the end user.

I was referring to the phone / tablet / connector… NOT the cable. Most of the failures come from said connector by sinking or bending the inner tab. That's why I don't like it; what others do is irrelevant.
