The evolution of the iPhone in pictures

Evolution-iPhone

The iPhone has been with us for more than 6 years. In June 2007 the first iPhone appeared, a smartphone that would set the trend for other smartphones from that moment on. Six years later, 8 different iPhone models have already appeared. At TopTienMobiel they have created an infographic that perfectly summarizes the evolution of Apple's smartphone over the years.

Evolution-1

In June 2007 it appeared the iPhone 2G, Apple's first smartphone. A large touch screen and the absence of a keyboard and stylus were its main differences from other smartphones. The iPhone 2G came with iPhone OS 1.0 (no iOS), and was specifically designed to be operated with your fingers. The interface of this operating system would be the hallmark of Apple's mobile software for the next few years. Its first weekend on sale reached 700.000 units sold.

Evolution-2

A year later the iPhone 3G arrived, with support for 3G mobile networks and a small design change compared to the previous model. The iPhone was no longer available only in black, with the option to purchase it blank, color that would be quite difficult to achieve. This new iPhone was accompanied by the new iPhone OS 2.0 and finally the App Store, Apple's application store, which would allow us to install third-party applications on our device. 1 million devices were sold the weekend of its launch.

Evolution-3

In June 2009 came the first iPhone with an 'S' in its name. The iPhone 3GS started what would be a custom at Apple: renew the iPhone from the inside while maintaining the same external appearance. Same design, but higher specs, with a faster processor, improved camera (which still didn't have a flash), and a new compass function. Its first weekend 1 million devices were sold. This iPhone model would be sold (with some modifications) until September 2012.

Evolution-4

In 2010, the "revolution" came to the iPhone with the new iPhone 4. A new design with glass on the front and back, and a new screen that Apple called "Retina", with a resolution of 960 × 640 and a pixel density of 326ppi and that would set the new bar to overcome by the competition. This iPhone model, with a revolutionary antenna that used the frame of the device to improve the signal, came with the famous "Antennagate", a flaw that Apple recognized and corrected by giving a case (bumper) to everyone who bought the device. The addition of the flash to the rear camera and a new front camera for video calls were other main novelties. 1,2 million devices were sold in its first weekend.

Evolution-5

iOS 5 arrived in 2011 with Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, but exclusively for its new model, the iPhone 4S. An identical design to its predecessor, but with the Antennagate already fixed, and an improvement in the camera and processor. Few more changes brought this model that despite being very similar to the previous one, it widely beat its sales record, with 4 million devices sold the first weekend.

Evolution-6

The iPhone 5 arrived in 2012 trying to respond to those users who requested a larger screen. Apple gave its smartphone a 4-inch screen while maintaining the width of the iPhone, so the result was an elongated iPhone that was object of criticism and more or less witty parodies. Apple also abandoned the glass back for an anodized aluminum one, and opted for aluminum also for the rest of the device's structure. Again the sales record was smashed, with 5 million units sold in its first weekend.

Evolution-7

In 2013 Apple surprised with 2 new iPhone models instead of one. The iPhone 5c, a model with almost identical features as the iPhone 5, but with a polycarbonate finish and available in different colors. Much criticized for its price, since for months it was called (not by Apple but by the specialized media) as the "cheap" iPhone, something that later did not come true. The iPhone 5s, the first iPhone with a lowercase "s", kept the same design as the iPhone 5, but with a new gold color, and Touch ID as the main novelty, in addition to its 64-bit processor. No less controversial was the arrival of iOS 7 this year, a new operating system that for the first time changed its appearance radically compared to the original versions. Both models achieved spectacular (combined) sales figures: 9 million units sold in their first weekend.
