Many of you will remember the history of the iPhone 4 leak. Apple's big surprise for 2010 was ruined when the web Gizmodo leaked a prototype of the iPhone 4 that had been found in a bar in San Jose, California, near where Apple's headquarters are.
At that time, Brian was 21 years old and he was in that bar when "someone approached him giving him a phone and saying that he had left it for him." Brian is the guy who sold the iPhone from the bar to the Gizmodo website for $ 5.000. A sale that in the end was expensive, since Apple sued Brian for "theft of private property" and the costs of the trial ended up being expensive for the protagonist of this story.
The first version we met in 2010 is that an Apple employee left his phone behind at the bar and Brian found it. Rather than trying to locate the owner of the phone, Brian decided to contact tech blogs to sell the handset.
When the phone saw the light in Gizmodo, Apple was not amused by the matter and sued Brian and the copywriter who wrote the Gizmodo story.
This week, Brian has answered all questions from visitors to the Reddit portal under the headline «I leaked the iPhone 4«. His version of the story has changed slightly from what Gizmodo told us three years ago.
Brian swears and perjures that he tried to find the owner of the iPhone 4, which was in a case. After searching for him around the bar that night and on the Craigslist portal the next day, Brian decided to contact Apple but the company did not take him seriously (this part of the story is now coming to light, probably as a reason for defense).
Gizmodo was the only outlet to believe him and offer him a good sum of money: $ 5.000 once the story was published and another $ 3.000 once it was confirmed that it was indeed a prototype iPhone. Of that agreed sum, Brian only got the $ 5.000.
