Accessories manufacturer Incipio has officially launched the Cashwrap, a cover with Near Field Communication (NFC), which adds support for the ISIS mobile payment standard for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5s.
Using the Cashwrap and ISIS Mobile Wallet app, iPhone users will be able to use many of their Credit and debit cards (and some loyalty cards) for contact-less payments. Being tied to AT&T customers, we will have to wait for it to spread.
Incipio ensures that users' financial details are stored on a secure chip "Inviolable".
The company has obtained the certification Made for iPhone from Apple along with approval from ISIS, DeviceFidelity, American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. Although Incipio launches Cashwrap with AT&T, it is likely to expand to other channels, due to the ISIS protocol relationship with Verizon and T-Mobile.
In addition to being able to pay with it, the Cashwrap is also a functional protective cover. It features a multi-layer design with a rigid exterior and a core that absorbs shock, while allowing access to all ports and buttons on the iPhone.
Currently this is the only payment option with NFC that exists for the iPhone 5 and 5s. The Cashwrap is now available for U.S. dollar 65 in the AT&T online store and will make its debut in physical stores next January 27.
