IPad Pro is compatible with Apple's Pro Display XDR

iPad Pro

One of the novelties that came from the latest range of iPad Pro is found in the USB-C connector, a USB-C connector that allows us to connect not only any storage device, but also external monitors, which allows us to work in a more comfortable way when we are at home or in the office.

For a few days, it is already possible to reserve the new Mac and the new Apple Pro Display XDR monitor, a monitor designed for professionals not only because of its price, but also because of the features it makes available to us. If you are a user of both the iPad Pro and the Pro Display XDR we have good news.

And I say good news, because initially the new Apple monitor is not compatible with the iPad Pro, as we can read in the list of devices compatible with this monitor on the official Apple website. Fortunately it is, although only in 5k resolution, which is already more than enough.

Jonathan Morrison, one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to test and review the new Mac Pro and the Pro Display XDR monitor, has shared a video on Twitter in which We see the 2018 iPad Pro working connected to the Pro Display XDR monitor.

According to Apple's website, the Pro Display XDR monitor is officially compatible with the following Macs:

  • 15-inch MacBook Pro (2018 or later)
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
  • 21,5-inch iMac (2019)
  • 27-inch iMac (2019)
  • All Macs with Thunderbolt 3 ports and Blackmagic eGPU or Blackmagic eGPU Pro
  • This monitor is only compatible with computers managed with macOS Catalina.

But this monitor is not the only one that is also compatible but it is not available among the devices that are officially compatible. The 12-inch MacBook, released in 2015 and discontinued this year it also supports 5K resolution, although it is most likely that working daily in this resolution is not advisable, since it does not have a Thuberbolt 3 connection but rather USB-C to connect to external monitors.
