A sailor's iPhone survives 6 days under the sea

It is not the first time, nor will it probably be the last, that we talk about the resistance offered by some smartphones on the market when they submerge under the waters, and I am not referring to a bucket of water to do some simple tests to verify the certification that manufacturers offer in their terminals.

Today it is the turn of an iPhone, specifically the iPhone X of a sailor who, while carrying out cleaning tasks on a ship, this it fell at a depth of 15 meters. Although he initially tried to get it back, he had to wait for the tide to go out before he could get it back.

When the tide finally went out 6 days had passed, the iPhone was still running on 3% battery and it was full of mud. The owner of the device removed all the sand that covered the terminal, including the loading port and waited for it to dry. Fortunately for Ben Schofield, owner of the phone, the sand was not introduced through the loading port inside the terminal, which would have caused irreparable damage to the terminal.

The certification that Apple includes, IP67, is the same that we can find in most of the high-end terminals currently available on the market, a certification that guarantees that the phone will continue to function if we submerge it to a depth of 1 meter for 30 seconds.

The luck that Ben has had with his iPhone X, is a case in a million, but it is good to know that, sometimes, the certification of protection against water and dust that some manufacturers offer us, depending on the conditions that occur, they can allow it to stay protected. Most likely, the terminal fell into an area of land, land that quickly covered the entire terminal, including the loading port and preventing water from entering the interior.

I do not believe it, last year on my summer trip to Thailand I had an unfortunate accident with my iPhone X, I rented a kayak and although they sell the iPhone as waterproof, I bought a case to protect it, once in the water paddling on the kayak, a wave turned me over and I fell into the water, after a couple of hours, already on land, I realize that the protector did not close properly and some water got in, VERY LITTLE WATER and the iPhone turned off And it never turned on again, I had to get to Madrid to take it to support and still under warranty, I was surprised that the iPhone was broken because water had entered it and Apple did not answer me for it and I had to buy one new. So I question this article from my experience.
