The MagSafe charger will be limited to 12W in the iPhone 12 Mini

MagSafe charger and silicone MagSafe sleeve

One of the novelties of the last Apple Event was the MagSafe chargers which, together with the new magnetic charging system of all iPhone 12 models, would fit into a perfect symbiosis to charge devices "wirelessly" (remember that the charger is connected by cable), and with fast charging providing 15W.

However, in a recent Apple support document, available at this link, indicates that The new MagSafe charger will be limited to 12W peak power when used with the new iPhone 12 Mini model. In this way, the charger would work differently from the one it provides with other devices where it would reach 15W.

Apple indicates that the iPhone 12 Mini can achieve this 12W with a USB-C adapter that meets or exceeds 9V / 2.03A. For the rest of the iPhone 12 models, 15W would be achieved with a 9V / 2.22A or 9V / 2.56A USB-C adapter. Despite this, Apple indicates that the power delivered to any of the iPhone 12 models will depend on several factors, including the temperature of the system at all times.

The supporting document also mentions that when accessories are connected via the Lightning port such as EarPods that are no longer included in the box, MagSafe charger power is limited to 7,5W to meet regulatory standards. This is applicable to all iPhone models.

Apple not only provides us with this charger power data, it also tells us how we should use it to charge our devices. The MagSafe charger should be plugged into the adapter and an electrical outlet prior to docking with iPhones. to see if it can safely deliver full power. If we dock the charger to the iPhone before connecting it to the power outlet, it is better that we remove the iPhone from the charger, wait three seconds and reconnect it again so that the MagSafe provides the maximum charging power.

The MagSafe charger is available for € 45 in the Apple Store while the iPhone 12 Mini can be reserved from this next Friday, November 6.
