The new Apple Watch Series 7 mounts the same processor as the Series 6

We are used to all new Apple devices moving towards future versions of all their software and hardware. In the case of the iPhone 13 we have seen how we go from the A14 Bionic chip to the chip A15 Bionic, an unprecedented computational leap. Apple didn't take the time to discuss the hardware of the Apple Watch Series 7 in yesterday's keynote. Many were the speculations about the fact itself. However, today we are getting closer to a possible cause: The Apple Watch Series 7 carries the same processor as its predecessor the Series 6.

The Apple Watch Series 7 carries the S6 SiP chip from the Series 6

The confirmation came thanks to developer Steve Troughton-Smith who posted an image on his Twitter account. It was a table where we can see Apple Watch models with the codes for each processor. In the case of the Series 6 we see that the S6 chip had the identification code 't8301' while the new Apple Watch Series 7 also carries that indicator. This makes us see that the S6 chip is mounted on the Series 7.

There are many informants who assure that the chip that will carry the Series 7 will be the S6 to which they will have changed its name and will have called it S7 but its interior will remain the same at the power level. Recall that the S6 chip is a 64 bit dual core chip which was 20% faster than the S5. In addition, that dual core was based on the A13 chip that carried the entire iPhone 11 range. It also contained inside the W3 chip, ultra-wideband U1 chip, the altimeter and 5 GHz WiFi.

Note that It is not the first time that this has happened that two devices that take a year have the same processor. It already happened in 2016 with the Apple Watch Series 2 that carried the S1 chip from the Original Watch. Too happened with Series 4 and 5 although on this occasion Apple assigned different identification codes to the two chips although internally they were the same. We will see if there is any change in this S6 chip of the Apple Watch Series 7 and how it behaves in front of a totally improved watchOS 8.
