The iPhone X was the first Apple terminal to adopt OLED technology on its screens, an adoption that continued with iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, since the iPhone Xr continues to make use of LCD technology although of higher quality than previous models.
The low sales that the iPhone X had, had another negative effect on AppleAs having committed to a minimum number of screen orders, the company was penalized by Samsung to whom it owes a few million dollars. As we can read in ET News, the first Mac with OLED technology would be a 16-inch model, a model rumored for several months. This year, it would be the year that Apple could make the leap to OLED screens in all the terminals that it launches on the market, including the new generation of the iPhone Xr, although it entails an increase in its price, something that would be counterproductive for Apple and could affect sales, since it is the best-selling model of all that it presented in September 2018.
Apple has made a significant financial investment in Japan Display in recent years so that it will be responsible for the manufacture of OLED panels of their devices, but the latest news from Japan indicates that this company still has a long way to go before it can begin to provide Apple with the screens with the quality that Apple needs, a quality that for now only Samsung offers.
The other provider of OLED screens for iPhones is LG, a company that does not have the production capacity that Samsung offers hence this is responsible for the manufacture of almost 90 percent of all the screens of the iPhone.
