Google's purchase of Fitbit is confirmed

Earlier this week, a rumor began to circulate that Google was in negotiations to take over the Fitibt company, a rumor that was finally confirmed a few hours ago. The search giant will pay Fitibt $ 2.100 billion.

The official confirmation comes from Google itself, through an article in which it has confirmed that Alphabet has reached an agreement to purchase Fitbit, which will allow it to focus its efforts on a market that had practically abandoned in recent years.

Fitbit sales drop

As stated by Google in the post where it announces the purchase of Fitibt:

Over the years, Google has made progress with partners in this space with Wear OS and Google Fit, but we see an opportunity to further invest in Wear OS, as well as bring Made by Google wearable devices to market. Fitbit has been a true pioneer in the industry, creating compelling products, experiences, and a vibrant user community. By working closely with Fitbit's team of experts, and bringing together the best AI, software, and hardware, we can help spur apparel innovation and create products that benefit even more people around the world.

This is not the first move Google has made in the wearables market. A few months ago, reached an agreement with Fossil to buy part of the technology that it has developed in recent years, implying that a Pixel Watch could have reached the market by the hand of the new generation Pixel, something that unfortunately we did not see. After the announcement of this agreement, it is most likely that next year if the first smartwach designed and manufactured by Google will see the light of day.
