The presentation of the new operating systems Apple's WWDC 2021 was a breath of fresh air for all developers. One of the transversal functions that was announced in all of them was Share Play. An option that allowed users to share content from very different sources through FaceTime: music, movies and videos. Throughout the first five beta versions of all systems, it has been found that it is a very powerful tool. But nevertheless, Apple has decided to postpone the launch of SharePlay in the first final version of the new operating systems: iOS, iPadOS, tvOS and macOS.
Apple delays the release of SharePlay on iOS, tvOS, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey
Just yesterday Apple launched the 15th beta for iOS and iPadOS developers XNUMX. However, inside it, the SharePlay function was disappearing. To explain its disappearance, Apple issued a statement claiming that the option will not see the light in the first final version of the operating systems in autumn but it will do so in later versions such as iOS 15.1 or iOS 15.2.
It is common for the Big Apple to dispense with options and functions because they encounter a problem when it comes to being distributed throughout the world. Or because they prefer to wait for its launch to give users one more reason to update their devices. But what is clear is that We will not see SharePlay on iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15 or macOS Monterey, at least in the final version to be released in the fall.
A short statement that clearly announces the delay
Apple issued the following statement on the official website for developers explaining its decision but not giving details about it:
SharePlay has been disabled for use in iOS 6, iPadOS 15, and tvOS 15 developer beta 15, and will be disabled in the upcoming macOS Monterey beta 6. SharePlay will also be disabled for use in its initial releases this fall. […] Will be re-enabled for use in future developer beta releases and released to the public in software updates later this fall. [..]
We are delighted with the high level of enthusiasm we have seen in the developer community […] and we look forward to bringing it to users so that they can experience their applications with their friends and family in a whole new way.
We appreciate the number of teams that have worked hard to create SharePlay experiences and to ensure there are no disruptions to your development, we have provided a SharePlay development profile that will allow for the successful creation and reception of group sessions via the API of group activities.
As you can read, although SharePlay is not available in the developer betas of the operating systems, a development profile has been created that allows you to continue working with the tool. It is expected that it will be with the betas of iOS 15.1 when SharePlay returns. And you can finalize a test of the option that has remained with us for five betas.
