The Shortcuts app is now available for developers

Siri shortcuts

Siri Shortcuts and the Shortcuts app were announced more than a month ago at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from Apple as a giant leap forward for Siri.

Today, Apple has made available to developers (or people with a developer account) access to the Shortcuts app (“Shortcuts”) through Testflight, the app for testing Apple apps.

Siri shortcuts and the Shortcuts app are the fruit of the Workflow purchase by Apple. Without a doubt, it has always been an app that allows us to get the most out of our iPhone or, at least, to do it in a faster and easier way (once we have the workflow created).

Apple wants the routine of using our iPhone to be more transparent and simple. So, Routine actions, single or combined, will be streamlined thanks to the Shortcuts app. And you will know what you can do thanks to Siri, which will learn from your routine and recommend shortcuts.

For now, the only preview that we can enjoy in the public beta or for developers (who do not install Shortcuts) is the menu of "Quick functions" found in Settings -> "Siri and Search".

They are still not as functional as Apple showed at WWDC, but, little by little, and thanks to sharing the Shortcuts app with developers, we will see how possibilities will be added.

If you have a developer account, you will need to request access to the Shortcuts beta through the developer portal and install Testflight on your iPhone, if you haven't done it before.

For those of us who are not developers, being a productivity system that needs the joint work of Apple and the developers to be all the good it promises, it's nice to know that with three months to go for the possible release of iOS 12, they are already working on it.
