Google's web compression system is coming to Chrome soon

Over the years, we are more and more users who use a mobile device to surf the Internet. The speeds, at least where we have LTE coverage, are very acceptable, but our data plans are not where, at best, we pay a lot of money for a rate that does not offer unlimited data. Knowing this, Google set out to create a compression algorithm that will allow us to navigate faster while consuming less data, an algorithm that will arrive soon in your browser, Chrome.

But the problem of browsing on mobile devices is not the only one. There are also areas where the speed of the Internet leaves much to be desired, so something like what Google has prepared, which promises compress the web 25% more than it currently does. The new algorithm is called Brotli and it is designed to replace the current algorithm known as Zopfli. It has been in development for several months and you are now ready to include it in your browser.

According to Google, Brotli uses a totally new data format that manages the compression of web content in an impressive way, which it achieves by reducing HTML, CSS and Javascript code. In addition to the compression that ranges between 17% and 25% more than Zopfli, the pages will also load faster by doing better space management, which will have an especially positive impact for mobile devices due to the aforementioned data savings and, which also seems interesting, will have a lower energy consumption, something that is always welcome.

The code is already prepared and it is believed that it will be available in the next version of Chrome. It is unknown, but it is expected, if it will also reach the iOS version of Google's browser. But something important is that Brotli is from open source, so any developer can use it in their browser. Will we see it in Safari?
