This is Healthbook, the star application of iOS 8

Health Book iOS 8

With some possible specifications of the iPhone 6 on the table and a few screenshots of iOS 8 already leaked, now It only remains to outline the information that we already have until Apple officially presents its next terminal and mobile operating system.

Now it is the turn to know a little more in depth to Healthbook, the flagship application of iOS 8 which goes one step further in terms of quantification and offers really complete information on our daily activity.

The appearance of Healthbook is very similar to the Passbook, what's more, its icon is practically identical except for the color palette used in this case. The people of 9to5Mac have known about the existence of Healthbook for a long time and they know people who are working on the project, something that has helped them when it comes to telling us what the application will be like.

As I have already said, Healthbook will be very similar to Passbook in terms of interface and each section is on a different card that we can click on to access it. Here are some of the possibilities that this application will offer:

  • Blood Tests
  • Heart rate
  • Hydration level
  • Blood pressure
  • Physical activity
  • Nutrition
  • Blood sugar level
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Breathing frequency
  • Oxygen saturation
  • Weight :

Fitness functionality

Fitness functionality

In addition to the above, Healthbook will perform specific functions for specific activities. For example, there will be one for all those who practice Fitness and that relates to each other the sections of physical activity, weight and nutrition.

The part of physical activity It will be in charge of measuring certain parameters such as the steps we take, the calories burned and the distance we have traveled.

In the weight section, the user will be in charge of frequently entering their height and weight so that the application automatically calculates their BMI (Body Mass Index) and fat percentage. A graph will allow us to see our evolution over time in a matter of seconds.

Regarding the section of nutrition, users will have to enter what we eat daily, something very interesting in order to calculate the calories ingested and follow a diet.

Heartbeat and blood pressure:

Although we do not know if the iPhone 6 will have a dedicated sensor to measure pulsations Like the Galaxy S5, the truth is that you can use the rear camera of the terminal to achieve a very similar result.

Healthbook will be able to monitor our heart rate and blood pressure, yes, for this last parameter we will have to continue going to the doctor. Later, we can save the data in the application to keep a record.

Blood test, oxygen saturation and blood sugar level:

Again, Healthbook will allow you to keep a record of all these parameters, although for now, these are the sections in which Apple still hasn't worked hard enough and there are still many things to define. It is still not very clear how Apple will manage the information provided by laboratories and hospitals on this data in its application.

Hydration and respiratory rate:

The hydration levels and respiratory rate They will also have their own sections in Healthbook.

Hydration is especially important for athletes in order to know the amount of water in your body and know if they should drink more fluids during exercise.

La Breathing frequency It can be calculated using the same techniques that are used to know the levels of oxygen in the blood, therefore, there is still no technological device that we can carry around to calculate this parameter.

Sleep monitoring:

Another function highly demanded by users of smart bracelets and watches is that of monitor sleep. Healthbook will be able to do this, to know our sleep cycles and the quality of it.

With all this data we can know how long we have slept and if we have had a moment in which we have woken up or moved more than necessary among other factors.

Emergency card:

Healthbook

A practice that we should all do is to have information from us so that in case of an emergency or accident, the authorities can obtain more information about us via mobile.

Currently there are applications that do that or a widely used technique that is to create a contact named "AA xxxx" so that it is placed in the first position of the agenda and is to the number that they call if we suffer an accident.

Thanks to Healthbook we will be able to do that and collect other important data about us such as our name, date of birth, weight, medications we are taking, blood type or if we are organ donors. All this data will be accessible from the lock screen as is already the case with Passbook.

How will Healthbook collect all this data?

Healthbook

You have already seen that many of the data handled in Healthbook can be enter manually or by using third-party accessories such as activity bracelets or smart watches. Others sound like science fiction to be a mobile so for now it seems that we will be the ones who will enter the data manually.

Nor should we forget that the iPhone 5s incorporates the M7 coprocessor which is capable of compiling the steps we take and calculating based on that data the distance traveled and the calories burned. It is clear that parameters such as blood pressure or respiratory rate will need other accessories to be calculated.

There is also the possibility that Apple may launch its own device to be able to communicate with the iPhone and provide it with much of the data that Healthbook uses.

In any case, in June we will see how Healthbook works with the official presentation of iOS 8 at WWDC. If you are looking forward to iOS 8 more, check out the post in which we showed more screenshots a few days ago.

And all this gentlemen with a new terminal, with a super battery of about 15 minutes of total duration! Because since they do not make a nuclear technology battery, I doubt that it will last much more than 15 minutes

Not necessarily. In the case of using Bluetooth 4.0 to communicate with accessories, the battery consumption is quite contained. In the case of the M7 coprocessor, it hardly uses battery and proof of this is that it continues to work even if we run out of battery (critical reserve level).

In any case, if the iPhone 6 increases the size of its screen, it is likely that its battery size will, if only to maintain current autonomy times.

      Regards!

I do not think that Apple puts this app natively on our iPhone, an app that requires communicating with devices from other manufacturers ... not many would end up using it, the logical thing would be to introduce changes to the iPhone so that much of this information is obtained by The same iPhone and the other information for another device like the iwatch, that would be logical but due to the important data that the app offers most people do not give credibility to that option, Apple has something up our sleeve, somethingo very revolutionary, get ready
