Some time ago, in 2015, the Microsoft company launched the purchase of Sleep as an Droid, an effective task manager that had earned the best reviews for different reasons, especially highlighting its free option, its careful design and, above all, its versatility, since it could be adapted to both the simplest task lists and the to-do list. the purchase, even users related to the GTD method.
Microsoft has since abandoned the progress of Wunderlist, so the thing was clear: the Redmond company was preparing something new that could be efficiently integrated into its Office 365 service. Now, a couple of years later, the answer has come: To-Do.
To-Do, a task manager with tasks to do
The new task manager developed by the arch-enemy company of the bitten apple is officially called Microsoft To-Do, was launched yesterday, Wednesday April 19 and, tibien defines itself as "the best tool to manage work and leisure time every day and not leave anything to do", the reality is that it still has a long way to go. a path that nevertheless promises.
Microsoft To-Do is a simplicity-based task manager. As soon as we open the app we will find two sections, "My day" (equivalent to the "Today" section), a place where we can write down all those we want to do today, or where we can take tasks that we have in other lists, and the "To-Do" section.
Obviously, we can create as many task lists as we need, without limits, in order to organize and manage our time much more efficiently: work, home, shopping list, books we want to read, movies we want to see, specific projects, and everything you can imagine.
My first impressions
Just yesterday night, just when I managed to have a free slot, I downloaded Microsoft To-Do on my iPhone 6 Plus. I already have a task manager that adjusts perfectly to what I need, with a version for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Web and Mac (and you will know later why I mention precisely this) however, I was curious could, I wanted to take a look at it so I could give you my first impressions.
What I liked the most
We will start with the positive. What I liked the most about Microsoft To-Do has been his ease of use both to create lists of tasks and tasks, to assign completion dates or generate recurring tasks. I also do not forget the reminders, a very clean, intuitive and pleasant design.
And although I have not yet been able to test it (a greater use of the app is necessary for this), To-Do provides smart task planning that we will be able to evaluate in a while.
What I have missed
Obviously, we must not forget that Microsoft To-Do It has just been launched and is in the "Preview" phase (something like a beta version but available to all users), so it still has a long way to go. That said, I find it somewhat incomprehensible that Microsoft has decided to launch a new task manager with certain shortcomings, For example:
- To-Do Aun not available for iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch (Although it will be). The fiasco that I had when installing it on my iPad was enormous and of course, it will hardly be able to replace my current manager if it does not yet have the corresponding version.
- La importing tasks from other services is limited to Todoist and Wunderlist, so if you use another service, it will also be a brake to have to start from scratch by hand.
- On the day of a task, it is not shown in the "My day" section, which is an ideal formula to know everything you have pending today, no matter what it corresponds to.
- For intensive use, we need more themes and more colors, many more.
To-Do will hardly be adopted by users who already use services as powerful, complete and efficient as Omnifocus, Todoist or 2Do, among others, in their day-to-day lives, however, the seed planted by Microsoft in this launch seems to promise a lot. Personally, despite the initial shortcomings, I must admit that I like it, and that I am going to keep track of it, and since it is free, I invite you to try it.
