Tumblr, like Telegram, withdrew from the App Store for displaying child pornography

Last February, the Cupertino-based company decided remove the Telegram messaging application from the App Store. The reason for the withdrawal was due to a problem with the application. A few days later, it became known that the reason was related to some channels that distributed child pornography, with the app itself.

Last Sunday, we informed you about the mysterious disappearance of the Tumblr app from the App Store, an application that from the company they claimed not to know the reason. Apparently, and according to Tumlr, child pornography has once again had to do with the disappearance of an application. It is not the first time but it seems that it will not be the last.

In the statement that the company has made public, we can read:

We are committed to helping build a safe online environment for all users, and we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to media depicting child sexual abuse and exploitation. Because this is an industry-wide issue, we work collaboratively with our industry colleagues and partners, such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), to actively monitor the content that is being released. load on the platform.

Every image uploaded to Tumblr is scanned by an industry database containing child sexual abuse material, and the images that are detected never make it to the platform. A routine audit discovered content on our platform that had not yet been included in the industry database. We immediately remove this content.

Because the distribution of child pornography is a criminal offense, it is understandable that the application was quickly removed from the App Store. According to the company, Tumblr is working with Apple to add new filtering tools to prevent problems of this type from affecting the platform again.
