Twitter reconsiders removing the 140 character limit

Twitter

A few months ago, since the departure of the CEO of Twitter, replaced by one of the founders of the platform, various rumors began to emerge that suggested that Twitter had to raise its head once and for all and had several options on the table to try to do it. If you have noticed, for several weeks, no web page shows the number of shares that have been made of the page you are visiting. Twitter decided to remove that valuable number for both publishers and readers of its own accord, and there is currently no intention of it reappearing.

The latest rumors that come from the company, state that the social network would be trying to eliminate the 140 character limit and set it to 10.000, an increase that would put an end to one of the reasons for its founding. At the moment it seems that Twitter is already testing this new character limit with a small group of users, and according to their reactions and that of their followers, they could reduce it to 5.000. If you are Twitter users, you have to recognize that on many occasions the 140 characters fall short, forcing us to abbreviate certain words in order to accommodate the entire message.

Naturally, we will not be able to read such a long tweet in our timelineInstead, Twitter would add a link that, when clicked, would open the full message. Offering the possibility of a tweet of up to 10.000 characters I see it as a complete nonsense, but perhaps what Twitter wants, thanks to the collaboration that has just resumed with Google, is that such long articles are indexed in the search platform, in order to motivate more users to open an account on the social network.

What do you think about the social network extending the character limit to 10.000?
