Updates of the Week: Facebook, Skype, Digg Reader and more

Updates of the Week

Here is the Sunday article again: Updates of the Week. In this section (in which we have reformed the logo) we intend inform you of an interesting update of the applications and games that we have installed on our devices, especially on the iPad. We also want with each update you are encouraged to download and test the applications and games in order to have fun or make your iPad even more useful than it is now.

This week we have a total of 5 updates: Facebook, Skype, Digg Reader, McTube and WordPress. They are entertainment and productivity applications, this week, we put games aside to focus on the updates of the applications themselves, the productivity ones.

Facebook

The application of the largest social network on the Internet has been updated for iOS devices with some interesting features, one of them only executable in the United States, Spanish and other countries, we are left aside in terms of this new Facebook feature that you see below:

  • Reserve restaurant tables (US only): Thanks to OpenTable we can reserve a table at different restaurants throughout the United States. In addition, we do not need an OpenTable account but it is valid with the Facebook account itself.
  • Search hashtags: Now through the Facebook search engine we can search with hashtags to show us photographs, publications, videos that contain that tag.
  • Faster loading and new design on iPad bios
  • Bug fixes

Skype or Whatsapp

Videoconferences are part of our day to day, especially if our work is being carried out from home. In these cases, videoconferences are established with programs as famous as Skype, Google + Hangouts ... And the most famous, Skype, is updated for iOS devices. These are the improvements in this update:

  • Ability to make HD video calls with iPhone 5
  • Bug fixes
  • Call quality and performance improvement

Digg Reader

After the sudden closure of Google Reader, many companies launched applications that replaced this RSS reader, such as: Feedly, The Old Reader or, in this case, Digg Reader. A fabulous application for iPad and iPhone in addition to its own that is located on the web. I find it a pretty nice RSS reader to use, although I still prefer Feedly. These are the updates:

  • Popular: A new section showing the most important news / articles from our RSS feeds.
  • Show only unread articles: There is a new function that allows only displaying articles or news that have not been read.
  • Improved scrolling and ability to delete channels and folders
  • Readability support

mctube

The new official YouTube application for iOS has many problems on iPad 2 and iPad Mini with unexpected closures and we have to take an alternative to the application. McTube is an application to view YouTube videos with great tools such as: choose video quality, comments, suggested videos, subscriptions ... Here are the updates:

  • Big interface change: Until now the design was a bit rudimentary and now, with this update, the design is more minimalist with very few colors and a great resemblance to the new iOS 7.
  • Bug fixes and performance improvement

WordPress

In these times of crisis, blogs are bursting with new recipes to save a few euros, solve big problems for a few euros and give our personal opinion on different aspects. Even so, there are other more cheerful ones like Actualidad iPad or Actualidad iPhone. WordPress is a page that hosts tens of thousands of blogs. And on top of that, it is updated offering us new improvements:

  • New WordPress reader: Now, with this new reader, the experience of reading your own articles will be more beautiful and faster, thus making the task of creating articles more fun.
  • Account system: Our account will be more secure when we change the password and the possibility of activating two-step authentication as many companies have already integrated it.
  • Performance improvements (constant crashes)
  • New translation: ภาษาไทย
