Users prefer CarPlay to Android Auto, but with Google Maps

CarPlay has been around for quite some time, as has Android Auto, Google's answer to Apple's car assistant. Two systems that little by little have been embraced by the automotive industry until we get to the point where we are, where it is easy for the car you buy to include them as standard.

Despite the fact that the Apple platform has changed little over time, and its limitations in terms of compatible applications, it seems that CarPlay satisfies users more than Android AutoAt least that is what a recent study that has just published assures. However, not all is good news for Apple, as users still prefer Google Maps.

A recent study published in JD Power (and which we cannot see in Europe) establishes a maximum score of 1.000 for the two systems designed specifically for use in cars, CarPlay and Android Auto, and CarPlay users say they are more satisfied than Android Auto users, with a total score of 777 vs. 748. The difference is not so great as to think that there is something that really makes a difference, but this fact is curious if we take into account the other part of the news.

And it is that users prefer to use Google Maps over Apple Maps, even if they use iOS. At the moment in CarPlay you cannot use Google Maps, something that will change with the arrival of iOS 12, which is why the data is surprising. It seems that the rest of the system, which is not the navigation itself, is what really makes the difference and makes CarPlay win the "duel" with Android Auto.

There are other very revealing data from the study, and it is that the vehicle's own systems, which are already pre-installed, have less and less importance, since up to 19% of new car buyers never use these proprietary systems, and of these, up to 70% use their smartphone, either with CarPlay or with Android Auto.
