It's been a long time since WhatsApp included the possibility of making voice calls, but we've also been waiting a long time for video calls to be included (and a native app for the Apple Watch…). From what it seems, we will soon be able to video call with the most used messaging application on the planet, since the Video calls are already activated by default in the latest WhatsApp betas.
WhatsApp has already sent the version 2.16.13 to Apple and is expected to be available on the App Store in the middle of this week. Those who have tried (with Wi-Fi) some of the latest betas assure that the image quality is good, something that surprises me considering that voice calls are heard many times with a certain delay or lag. Of course, it will be worth having a good data plan or being connected to Wi-Fi because a call of about 50 seconds will consume more than 6mb, so we can think that the consumption will be, more or less, 7mb per minute.
WhatsApp video calls are activated by default in the latest beta
The WhatsApp video call interface will allow us to take the call, hang up, set a reminder or send a message. We remember that there is an SDK that integrates third-party applications in the iOS Phone app, so the interface is very similar to Apple's own. On the other hand, We can start a WhatsApp video call from the Phone application that we have installed by default in iOS 10.
When will the next version be available? Well, it is not known true, but we can start to mark on Wednesday such as the day we can start making video calls using WhatsApp and December 25 and January 1 as two days in which the most used messaging application in the world will not work correctly.
