Review: VOCOlinc PureFlow, breathe clean air at home with HomeKit

The quality of the air we breathe is a growing problem, and not only outside the home, but also indoors. Bad smells, allergens, pollution… All this can be finished with a purifier like this VOCOlinc PureFlow, which is also compatible with HomeKit.

Despite being on the market for a long time, air purifiers are still not very popular. That its size is large and that its prices are high are surely partly to blame, but also the fact that many people do not see a problem in the air they breathe at home. However the benefits of a purifier are enormousAlthough it takes a while to realize it, especially when after a few weeks you look at the filters and see everything they have collected.

Two triple filters for 99,97% of the particles

Its double filter system allows to retain 99,97% of all particles up to 0,3 microns in size. For this, it has two three-layer HEPA filters, including one with activated carbon., which collect from your pet's hair, to bad odors, through bacteria, pollen, dust, etc. Access to the filters is through magnetic doors located on the sides, and replacing them when necessary is child's play. On the duration of the filters, it can vary between six months or a year, it depends a lot on the time of use and the quality of the air they are filtering. The on-screen indicator informs you about the remaining life of the filters, which are available on Amazon, so buying them will be no problem.

Thanks to its size allows you to clean the air in a room up to 60 square meters, which makes it perfect not only for the home but also for business. In addition, at its lowest intensity it is very silent, only 30dB, practically unnoticeable even in the silence of the night, so you can use it even while you sleep. The specifications of the VOCOlinc PureFlow are completed with 2,4GHz WiFi connectivity, 5.1-inch LED screen, physical controls, timer and compatibility with HomeKit, Google Assistant and Alexa. In this analysis we will focus on its integration with Apple's home automation platform.

More than just a purifier

The main function of this device is to clean the air we breathe, but it also includes other features that differentiate it from other conventional purifiers. The first thing is its large LED screen located on the front. In it we can see the quality of the air, expressed in concentration of PM 2.5 (suspended particles less than 2.5 microns). The WHO recommends levels below 10 micrograms / m3 on an annual average and 25 micrograms / m3 on a 24-hour average to reduce cardiovascular effects. Shortly after using this purifier you will see how the screen shows you levels that range from 1 to 5 micrograms / m3, well below the maximums set by the WHO. You will also be able to see the speed of the fan, the humidity and temperature of the air and the status of the filters. Just below the screen you have a light bar that indicates the air quality with colors: green for good quality, red for poor quality, yellow and orange for intermediate qualities.

The brightness of the screen and the color bar is fully adjustable, allowing manual or automatic adjustment that varies depending on ambient light. When the appliance is not in operation, the screen turns off completely. The buttons on the top, around the air outlet grille, allow you to control the operation of the purifier. They are tactile buttons, and include an ideal lock for when there are children at home.

It also includes integration with HomeKit, where when adding it we will see that not only do we have a purifier, but also information about the room temperature, humidity and air quality will appear. One of its strongest assets is precisely this integration, with which we can create environments, integrate it with other accessories that we have added to our home network, and create automations, such as connecting it when you get home, disconnecting it when you leave it, or making a light change color depending on the air quality, as well as having it turn on when the air quality drops below a certain point.

We also have the controls on and off, and the intensity of the fan. I really see no reason not to use the purifier with the much more comfortable automatic mode. The first time I connected the PureFlow it did run for a few minutes with the fan at high revs, but, as I said before, hardly noticing that there is a fan connected. To give you an idea, the noise it makes is very similar to that of an air conditioner in silent mode.

The VOCOlinc app (link) has a peculiar aesthetic, personally it is not one of my favorites, but it allows you to control options that Casa does not include. You have the same controls as the buttons on the top of the purifier, including night mode, lock, etc. And you can also control the brightness of the LED screen and the color bar. It is also necessary for the firmware updates that there are, quite frequent in VOCOlinc accessories, which is good news.

Editor's opinion

Since we cannot control the quality of the air in the street, at least we should be concerned about the quality at home. Ventilating the rooms is necessary and highly recommended, but at the same time we open the door to harmful pollutants and allergens. This VOCOlinc PureFlow will considerably improve the air you breathe at home, eliminating the vast majority of harmful substances that are in the air in your room. And it also does it very quietly, without being annoying at all. Its integration with HomeKit is an important plus, and the fact that its replacement filters are available on Amazon is a piece of mind. Its price is high, but at the level of other conventional purifiers with similar characteristics. You can buy the VOCOlinc PureFlow for € 399 on Amazon (link) Y the pack of two replacement filters for € 176 (link).
